Polly leapt our the window and flew clumsily down to the ledge. She beackoned for the others to follow her—and quickly! For the weasel had loosed the door and was scrabbling ferociously at the crack between the edge of the door and the wall.

"Alice jumped behind her, but Elly was still so scared, she was sure she wouldn't make it.

Bandit popped her head out of a bush. Right now was the perfect time to steal from the castle, with all the guards distracted and in disarray due to the weasel attack. "C'mon!" She hissed to Blackberry and Jewel. She pulled on a black mask, thinking about how unlucky it was that her mate hadn't been able to come today.
Blackberry dutifully pulled on the mask, scrambling after his mother. "I don't get the point of these masks," he complained quietly to Jewel, "it's not like chickens use the face to identify criminals."

Jewel lagged behind.. "But Mom, it doesn't seem fair to steal from a castle being attacked." She complained loudly.
Blackberry looked a little hurt that Jewel had chosen to bring this up instead of talk with him.
Bandit whirled around, a look of annoyance on her face. She quickly crept behind a boulder, the two chicks following her. Blackberry stayed at the side of the boulder, watching for guards.
"Jewel," Bandit sighed, putting her wing to her face. The look of annoyance was gone. "We've talked about this. Our job.. is unfair." She looked at Jewel's face, desperate that she would understand and cooperate, if only this once. This was an important job for her, and she wished that she had brought someone else along. "And, as you know, ever since I got fired from that woodcutter job, we've needed this more than ever."

Jewel pondered it for a moment"...Well.. ok, just tell me what to do."

Bandit gave her a grateful look. She started to round the corner of the boulder, but paused and turned to Jewel again. "You know, chickling," she said, using her childhood nickname. "I will make sure you don't grow up to do.. this. You're gonna be better than me."

Jewel looked sorry for Bandit...but she didn't Know what to say, so she just looked at her.
