And of course the other chick we kept...

The double lacing is coming in more and more as they continue to feather in.

That last one has very minimal brown on her. She's possibly a different breed or poorly marked?

This pullet above is one of 2, this one has the marked chest feathers. The other has a reddish chest feathers. However I didn't seem to get any chest pictures of the other one. I'll have to enlist my daughters assistance to get individual photos.

That one I think maybe a Partridge Rock. The other either another Partridge Rock or possibly a Welsummer?

Anyway that is the most current update of the pullets.

The more I look at the pullets and think about it and photos of both Partridge Rocks and Welsummers, I truly am beginning to believe they're Welsummers. I think the ones with striped looking feathers, rust or yellowing in the hackles and the one with the rust chest, are welsummers. The other 3 are Barnevelders I believe. Demeanor wise the Lavender Cochin naturally is the sweetest, most curious and definitely friendliest. The two Welsummers are second curious and friendly. The Barnevelders are at best skittish. They panic and run when you come near them. On occasion one will be overpowered by their curiosity and have to check us out but otherwise they would just assume us not mess with them. That being the case, the Barnevelder is not a breed I would ever aspire to have again. Welsummers and of course standard Cochins I would.

This pullet is the one who has the solid color chest which is reddish in color. She has the coppering in her hackle feathers and some almost lacing in her body feathers. I'm hoping she turns out to be a Welsummer. I've never had one before.

Next is the Barnevelders...

One has a lot darker feathers (being mostly black) than the other 2. The other two look almost identical.
The fifth pullet looks like the first in everything except that her chest is not solid.

So maybe a dirty looking Barnevelder? They might all 5 be that or the two with copper be poor stock or potentially not pure. I'm going to post photos once they're POL age and maybe I can report the egg color then.

This is my supposedly Barnevelder. All puffed up for show in the first picture. I have to assume she's some kind of mix, don't you think? The feathered ends look blue or lavender instead of black and her rust colored hackles. Not sure what to make of her.

There is a blue laced version of the Barnevelder and your hen looks lot like that. She's beautiful by the way! :love
