The rehoming a rooster thread

Pics
Ugh. I am not looking forward to that part. I've never re-homed ANY animal before, apart from trading a few fish with some friends. Even fish, though, we tend to hang on to. We've got two cantankerous, mean catfish that we've kept in various cichlid tanks for almost 25 years now. My husband and I keep joking that we'll need to remember to provide for them in our will!

@Flockincrazy , that looks like such a lovely place. Thank you for posting the pictures. It makes me feel a LOT better. I'm sure your kids will LOVE this guy. My son is 14 and is always chasing after him to try to hold him. The rooster puts up a good-natured attempt to escape, but if he gets himself caught he's very happy to be held and petted. He'll even jump up on your lap for mealworms.
@TheFrogLady he has no hope of escape with my kids they catch chickens like little professionals and he will get all the mealworms he can handle i have my own mealworm farm and every time I turn around my kids are out by the coops with a cup of mealworms or some other kind of treat feeding it to them my boys are 6&8 and my daughter is 10 and they love our flocks

Hey guys we just found out our Martha is a Martin. She was already large and had pretty tail feathers, but at 20 weeks he just let out his first crow. We live in a suburban area, and unfortunately this means he won’t be able to stay. It breaks our hearts...

Location: Tualatin, Oregon
Name: Martha/Martin
Breed: Russian Orloff
Weight: Unknown ~ 6lbs?
Age: 20 weeks
Size: Probably typical for orloffs, but they are a tall, large breed
We love him/her. They’ve been hand raised and are very social. Comes running whenever they see you. REALLY loves food and treats and will bowl anything over to get to them. But very social, fun, big silly bird.

Roosters name: Winnie
Breed: Golden Laced Wyandotte
Age: 13 weeks
We were hoping this guy would turn out to be a hen, but are starting to see pointed saddle feathers. He hasn’t started crowing yet, but many other signs are evident. He is not aggressive toward people, has been handled daily since a few days old, doesn’t bite, and is sweet to his flock mates. We would love to keep him, but are not allowed roosters in our town.

UPDATE: Winnie has found a home.

So, I have known for a while this guy was a roo. And technically, we aren't supposed to have roosters where I live (hens ok, roosters, not so much...) but we live in a pretty rural area where there are farms and other folks with chickens (and roosters) nearby so we thought we'd keep him until we couldn't.

No one has complained or anything, but he crows ALL THE TIME. And I am afraid that someone is going to complain and then I may have real trouble (we have more hens than is allowed and another rooster who is much more docile and quiet ...) So I am trying to head off any trouble with the local Animal Control.

This rooster is a little aggressive, but usually only towards me. He doesn't bother with my husband or son at all. And, he seems to be good to his ladies.

He is an absolutely beautiful bird, but I don't think I can keep him and risk having to give up my other rooster some of my hens also in the process.

I would like to re-home him with the intent of him living a long life, not as dinner, please.

If you are interested, please send me a message or reply here and I will send you a message through BYC.

Roosters name: Jim Halpert, Bingo, Bluey, Buzz (can you tell we have kids?)
Breed: Jim, Buff Orpington, Bingo, buff silkie, Bluey and Buzz, splash silkies
Weight:
Age: All 4 months
Size: Jim is a standard size, the silkies are bantams
About rooster (roosters personality, why you need to rehome this rooster, etc.): We ended up with 4 roos in our last batch of chicks. With a 2 and 4 year old running around I prefer not to keep them around. They have all been well behaved, although Jim is starting to become more defensive of his hens

Have you still got any of the silkie roos?

Free to good home with experience, Lavender Orpington rooster.
Northwest Jersey here near Hackettstown. I have a very handsome Lavender Orpington rooster, Roopecca, turning 3yo on October 1st. He was the one all the kids loved and held when he was young, right up until he crowed. He had a crop issue that I worked on lovingly, medication and chicken bra applications. He became human aggressive and drew blood. I worked with him using tactics as suggested by so many wonderful people here. I eventually gave up and put him in a “bachelor pad”. He’s so unhappy seeing his ladies but unable to interact. I don’t want to cull him, he’s so pretty and I’ve put so much effort into him. I simply do not have the experience or ability to handle an aggressive rooster. I can’t even take care of his bra now.
Pm me if you are interested. If not please contact me if you know of a rescue.
