The Remaining Wolves

Cedar casually evaded the swelling fire. His alarmed orbs surveying between the vibrant trees and plumpy shrubs. Seeking for unpredictable dangers.

Suddenly Cedar heard an exotic booming noise that hastily got nearer. He cranked his head overhead and noted a massive white nose protruding from the dark haze. With a ferocious set of black propellers lashing harshly at the air. Whirling the toxic smog.

Cedar eased his swift pace. He narrowed his eyes into a thin slit. He observed curiously. Although, was intensely nervous.

Whisper didn't take long to spot the massive hovering mechanical machine. She didn't take no time to sit and admire it like Cedar. She bolted from it.

Too bad Zarzuk couldn't read River's snappy mind. He would of loved to remark harshly back.

The poor pup was cruelly swayed in Zarzuk's jowls as he briskly maneuvered through the trees. His back began to faintly cramp from the unusual applied pressure. Though, he was relentless to stop.
River had shook her head, and resolved to sulking.

Darkness might have been swaying around, his scruff cruelly being pinched and torn by the he-wolf's sharp fangs and huge jaws, since he wasn't being as gentle as River usually was.
He had set his jaws, and glared ahead until something become visible in the smoky sky. "Helicopter!" He squeaked.

Cedar took a swift glimpse at the darting wolf. He observed the frightening helicopter and realized it was hovering towards them.

The whirring noise influenced the intensity of the sinister chopper. And the deadly rotors.

Cedar pushed himself into a hard sprint. Eventually gliding past the speedy she-wolf.

Zarzuk noted River's head drop into moping. He parted his jowels to explain the reasoning to his off help. But that's when the chopper broke his attention.

Given no choice for Zarzuk of where the helicopter was. He came to a sliding halt. His expanded, stunned eyes scrutinized the new threat. "Uh..." He muffled with uncertainty.

Given the chance, River slid off the grey wolf's back, putting weight on her back leg, she winced, but that was all. Now was not a time to be weak.
"We can't let them see us. They'll kill wolves on first glance, and they think we're all dead. The longer they think that, the better." She growled, glaring upward.

Dove faintly curled her lip to form a smile. She found his sad joke interesting. She elevated her head realizing Stormcloud exposed no threat to her.

She trotted over, curiously observing his nervous behaviour. "I'm Dove. Nice to meet another wolf." She kindly replied. Her eyes more welcoming.
Stormcloud met her eyes. "I... I never thought I'd see another of my kind." He admitted, "After my parents died... I thought I might be the last one." His eyes grew distant at that, but quickly returned to the present as the acrid smoke stung his nose. "That's a pretty big fire. Do you know how it started?" He woofed abruptly, just to change the subject.

zarzuk nervously glimpsed over at the sly she-wolf that slithered off his back. He suddenly recalled a distant memory as River mentioned the helicopter's intensions.

He shook his head returning to the present. "The last time I encountered that flying object. Was when they fired upon wolves but the shots didn't kill." he notified. His tone dripping with astonishment. His eyes wandered for shelter from the danger.

Dove's smile suddenly vanished. "I'm sorry. That must of been awful." she apologized with a deep forlorn tone. Her eyes drifted to the forest ground. "I'm not sure where mine are. I became of age and left them to began my life." she shared. Her gentle stare returned to him. "I don't...I assume those awful humans..." she muttered.

River shook her head, her fur prickling in aggression at the helicopter. "Well, that Wonder-Land must have been nice, wolf. But all the humans we know, will only shoot to kill. Humans don't show mercy." She growled, her voice dripping like poison, filled with hate of humans. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Darkness glance at her, his eyes were almost sad. He had to be thinking of the time they hid as humans, were called humans.

Zarzuk detected protection beneath a aged fallen red tree. While River fulminated about humans. He recovered his considering eyes on the chopper. Debating on his tricky actions he contemplated to take.

Without another moment to think. Zarzuk raced to the tree corpse and slithered below it. His fangs released Darkness's now-mangy scruff. Allowing easier access in. His muzzle ushered the pup further beneath the vast tree. Concealing both from the sight of the helicopter and providing room for River.
