The Rescued Flock (Pictures Included)

I just stay away from anything besides the red wigglers to avoid worrying.

Do you find your flock feathering at about the same rate as mine? I'm still trying to pin down their age. How does Sunny do with all the older chicks?

Sunny is wonderful, they welcomed her like she was already a part of their flock, it was so cute :) no pecking at all ! and they are feathering in at different rates only one of my chicks don't have any tail feathers. I'll include picture of that. Even sunny at a week old has tail feathers :)

here is my Flock :) as you can see i added sand to half of their brooder...They LOVE it ! started sunbathing after checking it out ha ha

here you can see Pox in the middle doesn't have any tail feathers even at 2 weeks, thinking he might be a rooster. They two SS's were out of a straight run bin at TSC so who knows.

Sunny :)

here is one of my Red stars Drumstick you can see how she is getting darker feathers on top of her wing feathers now.

No I'm happy to see them! They are all super cute. :) I think the flock might be a little older then, if I compare them to yours.

Update: I've brought the chicks to work! Get ready for a bunch of pictures tonight.

Sorry for the delay! My silly camera stopped working yesterday and I had to get it fixed. I brought the chicks to work again today but didn't bring my camera. I took bunches of pictures yesterday, though, so it will hopefully appease you guys.

I work on a horse and cow farm. The boss owns a few horses and offers boarding and training, and has a herd of 50 cattle. They all LOVE the dirt, so please excuse the dirty animals.

J.J. the gelding

Goldie the mare (Boss rescued Goldie and she is currently being rehabilitated, so she's still on the thin side):

Their play pen. I took an old dog cage and wrapped chicken wire around it, since the chicks can slip right through the bars. They were in my sight most of the day, so I wasn't worried about any predators grabbing them. The horses don't care about the chickens and the cats would rather nap with them than eat them (they actually nap with one of the chickens!), so my only worry was the flock already there. Everyone behaved themselves.

One of the three barn cats, Blossom:

'Hmm? You want a picture? Too bad.'

They were a little shell shocked at first:

The fuzzy footed babies absolutely loved having dirt to bathe in:

One of the two guineas. These ladies are mean! They charge through the flock at the barn whenever there is any food and run everyone off. They make excellent guard dogs, however:

Cajun:

Cocoa (my horse) and Sleepy (Isn't it nice how dirty Cocoa is? Big fart. He loves rolling as soon as I finish brushing and let him out. I believe he enjoys being pampered.)

One of the young roosters:

Pepper:

The palomino in training:

The new head rooster (A bald eagle ate the old one.

Checked on the flock after feeding time. I think they like work:

'Who are these little guys?'

One of the bulls:

They found something to eat andd:

The head honcho chased them off:

Hiding in the hay bales:

The stud (closest to the camera) and his ladies:

Mr. Stud:

Rain:

They were investigated all day:

The ride home:

I think they really enjoy the farm and being outside. It was a little hotter today, but I slid the cage over so it was half in shade and half out. I think I'm going to start cutting down on brooder lamp time by the end of next week.

Those dog pens come in handy!! One is used for the ducks brooder ( 5 weeks) and the tall 5 ft one is used to block off both browsers from the pups. Looks like they enjoyed coming to work! Looks like you have beautiful weather :))

The weather was gorgeous this weekend. It had rained in the middle of the week so everything was muddy, but I couldn't complain.

I absolutely love my job! I couldn't be happier. :)

Goodness gracious the chicks are getting big! I'm going to upload some more individual pictures later tonight.

My diatomaceous earth came in, and I'll be using it when I change out their bedding this evening. Word of advice to anyone using DE- make sure you wear something to prevent the DE from being breathed in. If it's food grade, all you have to worry about is minor irritation that eventually goes away. If you use the filtration grade DE, it contains crystalline silica. This stuff can seriously mess you up- it causes silicosis and other lung diseases. Either way, use a mask! That's the end of my public service announcement.

I ordered a 10 pound bag off of Amazon and got two smaller five pound bags:

I finally made a chicken wire mesh as the cover for the brooder, and today the chicks got another play date. It was gorgeous and a little windy outside. I picked everyone up right before it started drizzling in the sunshine. I love it when it rains while sunny!

The travel container is getting rather packed:

As soon as I let them out, everyone started flapping and pecking and chest bumping. I imagine it's getting crowded in the brooder and pecking out rank is hard. I think only another week or two and they will be ready to move out.

Godzilla is getting huge! He's got the most feathers of them all:

Hot Stuff:

I think the fuzzy footed babies will be gorgeous when they feather out:

But for now, they look like dinosaurs:

Falcon:

I think Courage is a roo. His comb is much redder than everyone else's:

He also has some brown coming in:

And his little white wing tips look like he has a white bottom:

I love Little Chick's tiny shoulder feathers! Her beginnings of tail feathers are equally as cute:

Pterodactyl baby:

And a video. This was within the first few minutes of play time, so everyone was trying to situate themselves before foraging:
