The Rhodebar thread!

they do have head spots. I have tagged and kept a few darker roos. we will see. I don't think they are as dark as my current roo so may use him with some newer pullets and see if I get darker roos.
I have just two cockerel chicks from the shipped eggs I got. I'm not trying to be dense, but want to check my facts. They are both dark colored, but one is VERY dark red. If the single barred cocks are VERY dark because the double barred color gets diluted by that, don't I want to keep the *lighter* dark cockerel for double-barring? As soon as the hatch is over I will post photos, just can't open the door yet.

If you know the sire was double barred then they should both be. If you don't know that, you should tag them both so you can tell which was lighter down and which was darker down and judge from the adult plumage if they both turn out to be double barred then breed from the one with the darker down.

OK, so I set my eggs 8 days ago and candled this morning. I'm not seeing any development in any, but If they were good I should be right? they don't stink but They all look clear. Or are the developments this early not easy to see?

That's the thing...shipped eggs unless you know the breeder are just a gamble. I will toe punch these boys and wait it out. I haven't seen any chick photos that are as dark red as this one.

They are dark but do have the obvious head spots. .. track them each individually with periodic photos. Will be curious how they feather out. You will know in a few months. Surprises can be fun. .. Unless you are anal like me and want to know now. :)

Our Rhodebars have taken a break, no eggs for 4 days now. You would think it was winter or something.
Apparently so have the Rhodebar typers. No posts for 8 days. You'd think it was the holidays or something.
