The Rhodebar thread!

Can someone clarify for me ( I sure it is somewhere in these 153 pages!) how to breed my Rhodebar hens with my Heritage Rhode Island Red roosters to infuse the RIR but make "purebred" Rhodebars again? I lost me Rhodebar rooster this week

and I now have 5 hens and about a dozen pullets with no roo!
I thought this would be a great opportunity to improve size, color, tail set and body type in my Rhodebars since I have an amazing flock of RIRs.

With my Rhodebars, most of the roosters came up with a crazy roadrunner look. I am waiting to see if it is the same with my young cockerels growing now. My boy that died was just perfect in set and size but it took MANY culls to get him and he was my only one. I am hopeful with his sons. The Rhodebar hens are pretty cute, but they are a bit small and the eggs are on the puny side. I am hoping that the RIR infusion will improve both of these issues. Here are some pics;

RIR rooster over Rhodebar hens will produce sex linked chicks. Head Spot on boys (single barred) and girls will look wheaten (yellow) and grow to look like RIR hens.

Males and females will be e+/eWH . From there you would be looking for the same as any other combo. Personally I would mate the best looking barred cockerel back to Rhodebar hens looking for the best autosexing traits first with type being second.

I would go with Type first and autosxing trait second, as of today this birds look very far from RIR.. you just cant lose autosexing unless you do it on purpose

A poultry friend and I make this stuff up all the time. But I do wonder if you could get an autosexing dark egg layer, or if both traits would just be muddled with that mix.

Golden Cuckoo Marans. They are auto- sexing and lay a very nice dark egg. Not quite as dark as the Black Copper, but pretty nice.
