The Rhodebar thread!

I'm back.. :D They are older..pullets right? A lot of folks thought the lighter one was a cockerel..but it did have a small amount of chipmunk striping on it as a chick, no white spot. The two in the back..Rhodebars Fast little stinks wouldn't stay in one spot. The lighter one up front, the one that came out real dark chipmunk on right. Got a few pictures, hope they show up well enough for ideas..they sure both look like pullets to me. Same size comb. I love the barring coming out on the lighter one.. The legs aren't any different in size either. Not one thicker than the other. I don't see saddle feathers? They hatched, Dec. 30th, so just over two months old.
My opinion, for what it's worth... they ate likely both pullets, showboat if combs are the same size. My 6 week old RB have noticeably different sized combs. That said. .. If you ate trying to maintain any autosexing capabilities I would not breed the lighter one. If they aren't easily autosexed at hatch you don't want to perpetuate that.

Thank you, just wanting them for back yard chickens. A hen that will lay as well as the RIR, but with a bit of difference in coloring. Hope they have the same nice personalities my RIR's have had through the years. Thanks again.

BROODY RHODEBARS anyone have any rhodebars go broody ?? I have one that just hatched 4+ chicks and another that I just put over 12 eggs. that's 2 out of my 5 original pullets . just wondering if anyone else has experienced this ??

I had one try to go broody last year, but we did not let her, just too late in the season.

How old are they

Hmm. I have a 9 month old HRIR who went broody 2 weeks ago. I have her 7 Rhodebar eggs. But no Rhodebar have gone broody yet. Let us know if they are good mothers. I don't mind a few broodies, Just want some of them to keep laying

So I went out to work on my outdoor brooder, which is next to my RB/HRIR breeding pen. I kept hearing peeping but I knew I had been pulling eggs from them. They both stopped laying and were just brooding hay, or so I thought. They must have had an egg hidden under the hay because sure enough they have a little baby chick in there. There is only 1 and both hens are trying to mother it. If it's not one thing it's something else, lol. I have 4 out of 6 of my HRIR broody right now. Good thing I don't need any eggs to hatch right now or I'd be in trouble.
