The Rhodebar thread!

So. .. a chipmunk striped male. There goes my theory that the stripes indicated female

Sheri I am thinking more along the lines of the darkness of the stripes. Here are some pics of mine I took this morning

My lightest at hatching and is also my smallest and clearly looks male to me. You can see a medium at hatching next to him.

Medium colored stripe at hatching. His comb and small tail are saying male to me as well.

One of the dark striped at hatch. Sorry it's a bit blurry.

So the darker stripes are feathering out differently then the chicks hatched with lighter stripes.

Why Rhodebars are better autosexing than Cream Legbars? and why single barred males dont show a headspot?.. Thats simple, female Rhodebars are not expected to have a distinctive headspot, and females are B/- meaning they can only have one copy of the Barring gene, make their genome exactly like the single barred males, Rhodebar Females genome, e+/e+ B/- , single barred F1 genome d+/ey B/b+.. but what does this has to do with Cream Lebars? well the SOP and Punnetts description on the legbar females show a distinctive headspot, so some Heterozygous males show a faint headspot while having a distinctive chipmunk stipes.. here is a post of a Cream Legbar owner..

at first when I proposed doing the Back cross to HRIR project to enhance the Rhodebar breed I really believed that one could see the headspot on the males because I have seen Cream Lebar crosses do this, but it has become Obvious that this will not be the case, because of the Rhodebar outstanding Autosexing ability.. Other Breeds are not as lucky, Cream Legbar Hybrids

Note what appears to be a definitive white spot on his head as opposed to a "cap" exhibited by other barred chick varieties.
