The Rhodebar thread!

Pics
"the lighter line of Rhodebars are homozygous for the barring gene, while the darker Rhodebars are only heterozygous, but True breeding rhodebars are the homozygous ones"

This is VERY IMPORTANT info... if you are breeding raising ANY AUTOSEXING breed... many people see pics of heterozygous males and think they will breed true... not so... NEVER
I for one want and look for any and all info I can find on a breed that I want to raise... I do this BEFORE I buy chicks.... I know what it takes to breed them from start to finish.... and know what if any Standards are on the breed... no matter what part of the world they are from... How do they breed them there... not how someone anyone loking to make a buck breeds them...!!!

Do you have photos that you can show us of the homozygous chicks and the heterozygous chicks so we can see the difference? I definitely won't be breeding my chicks since I'm not sure what I have now. I have 3 dark and 3 light. Thanks~!

Correct me if I am wrong, but you can breed to homozygous using the heterozygous males. Homozygous is one B/b+ single gene for barring and Heterozygous is B/B two barring genes, so by crossing a heterozygous male B/b+ to another barred female should give you some offspring that would be homozygous B/B then you would look for color, type, etc.

rc50 is indeed correct, if they are not homozygous they will not breed true, double barring is required with all the "bar" autosexing chickens to breed true.

Note the Bb+ male below also has wheatengene with e+--------X-----------------Female Rhodebar e+ and barred B-

Will produce 25% DF or double barred males and 1 in 4 would also carry e+/e+ back crossing to the Rhodebar hen would produce 100% pure Rhodebars. Correct me if am wrong....I've really been trying to grasp all this with lots of help.

My rhodebar "day old"chicks from GFF arrived yesterday. I am guessing they are at least a wk old. Box was shipped the afternoon of 1/16 & made it to my post office on 1/18. 2 males were DOA & were completely trampled. All the were very chilled & I was scared I would have a few more losses. Happy to report they seem to have all recovered, I have 10 females & 1 male left. The females are not all identical, there are differences in the color & stripes. Here are a few pics

Interesting. The other ones (females) look just like my Rhodebars from GFF. I hope yours are pure Rhodebars. Apparently, some of mine are not. You can see pics of mine a couple pages back. So sorry about the two that didn't make it....
