And a few other autosexing breeds, which has apparently really confused a few people who think all autosexing breeds have the same genetics...ugh!

Hey guys this just a thought do you think greenfire use welsummer in with their RB? I had a hatchery wels a few years ago that looked very similar to some of the pics. Would they cross for a gentic purpose? I do not know . Basically thinking out loud

Anything is possible for sure. I am really not familiar with that breed so not sure about chick down but I think they have wildtype chick down. We know GFF was crossing other breeds with the RB besides Reds or there would not have been green/blue eggs so it is possible they threw in some Welsummer genes.

From the group picture I would say 1-female 2-male 3-either 4-male. I would only keep 1 and 2 and cull the other 2.

I'd like to see them in better lighting without a flash. If you are positive they are Rhodebar then my thought was 1 and 4. Does 2 or 4 have a more of a head spot? Does 1 have eyeliner?

One has eyeliner, and yes I saw the parents of the eggs. Not sure on the head spots.

Also keep in mind... about half of what I'm seeing from gff these days are not easily autosexable. So I wouldn't assume down color and pattern just because of origin. Jmo.
I have had dozens of private pics sent to me just in the last week to ask for analysis... more than half are directly from gff... more than half of those are not autosexable out of eggs and some day old chicks.
Selling eggs and not knowing is one thing. But shipping out day old chicks who are not autosexable is inexcusable. Use caution.
I am not wanting to accuse or cause trouble with gff... they simply do not know I think. So it falls on the rest of us to know which ones are the breeders if we not only don't want to loose the autosexing but we want to improve the breed.

How can they NOT know? Sorry, but I don't agree that ignorance is a valid excuse even if true. GFF should be "informed" by as many of us as possible. I cannot accept that they "do not know" the difference when promoting an autosexing breed in this manner. I understand your wish to be kind and non-provocative, but this sort of thing really makes it difficult for beginners and experienced breeders alike to own, enjoy, promote, and breed Rhodebars...not to mention the ethics of passing off substandard stock to unsuspecting buyers at exorbitant pricing.
