The Rhodebar thread!

YAY i'm happy to see all these beauties! We just got a Cream Legbar and a Rhodebar, and waiting on a few others from Secret Hills almost 2 weeks ago now (for Easter presents) and so far this little Rhodey is AWESOME! She is an extreme snugglebug. In fact that's all she wants is to be held and snuggled up with. *sigh*

Cute! Mine is the opposite. She's a spitfire - hard to catch, and no use for snuggling. She's got things to DO!

Sorry it took so long, the weather has been terrible here. Rain for a week straight.

is he part of a Rhodebar improvement program? I say this because he is heterozygous for the barring gene, Rhodebar males should be double barred like the rooster on the right of the pic you showed where this single barred male is on the left, was his dame a RIR? are you confused at what I am saying? there are only two possible ways why one should have a Single barred male(dark red barring) one its because you are doing an outcross to RIR to improve type size and color, the second one is the one I really hope its not your case, the second case is that he is the result of an unintended cross by the breeder you obtained him from

whats the difference between sinlge barred males and double barred rhodebars? aside from having a very rich red barring pattern(double barred males have pale red barring) the males have very dark tails faintly barred and some may even have black feathers on the tail too

Single Barred Males(the result of Rhodebar x RIR cross) They are/were part of a Rhodebar improvement program

double barred Rhodbar male(see his crispy barring on tail)

F1 pullets part of a Rhodebar improvement program that Michael started and its currently working on

(very good quality Rhodebar Male x exceptionally good RIR Female)

I don't care if he's just an intermediary step, that single barred roo is GORGEOUS.

The single barred are some very good looking birds for sure. If anyone is close to Eastern Ky/Southern WV and needs any Rhodebar roosters I have 8 10 week olds I would give them.
