update on the chicks. I am posting the pictures of the chicks before FF and one week into FF.

These chicks have a variety of 3 days. This is the first time I have ever deep littered chicks. I usually have to remove the chicks, wash and sanitize twice a day after feeding because I could not stand the smell and was afraid of contamination and illness. The litter is dry. I just add a handful and stir, I feed and water on top of surfaces covered in paper towel that I remove daily. What a time and money saver.

For bragging purposes I have put the Ops on the FF and have noticed an extra sheen in the feathering. They are not crazy about it, however they are not big eaters and prefer to hunt for food.

I like these and this is the first time I've got to see them this closely....nice pics! This is definitely more suited to older poultry like mine. The chicks did wonderful with the nipples I have but teaching these old birds new tricks have been problematic...the type of nipples I see here would end that problem immediately. Thank you so much for the info, pics and link...I'm definitely getting me some of these!!!

Good-bye primitive and simple nipples, hello sensible ones! (must have been designed by a woman

When I first started using them I'd trip the trigger and fill the little cups up all the way to the top so they'd know there was water in there. I did that for the first week or so but prob. didn't need to do it that long. (I still fill 'em up on occasion when I'm out there just for the fun of it.)

So sorry I haven't been able to find the drill bit size. I'm going to keep looking...I know I have it somewhere.

Oh...BTW...when I called the distributor (cornerstone) and asked if I could use them on a bucket like that he said they prob. wouldn't work. (They're designed for a low pressure, pvc/hose system.) He was wrong.

Excellent pics and feedback! That is a very pretty bird, BTW!

That's good to know! How much more low pressure can you get than a gravity fed bucket system?

I hate to ask, LM, but could you post those pics and links on the OT thread too? I think that would be a perfect place for the info....anything that makes flock management easier, more sensible, and cleaner is aces in my book.
