Last weekend I had to dispatch the rooster; he was getting too agressive. he would attack me even when I go in to refill the water. Plus he was waking the baby at 4am!

Anyway today, his genes have been passed on to a little chick. Mother hen has been sitting on about a dozen eggs so ther may be more!

I've seperated her fom the other hens. I have put in a saucer of water (held down with tent pegs). And some food for mummy. I havn't any chick crumbs yet so I have soaked some layer pellets for the chick. I will get some chick crumbs tomorrow.

Question: Will the mother teach her chick what to do with the water and food or should I encorage the chick?

Thanks

Tony

Mom will show them, if you decide to let her raise them.

WHen she goes to eat/ drink...the chicks will follow..and from then on they willl know where it is....unless you move it or hide it...lol

Well folks here are the little babies as promised.

I took some scraps out earlier and gave some bread to Mother Hen and it was so good to see her breaking it up for the little ones!
