I was not going to read this, just chapter one. Well, that went right out the window, LOL.
Horsefeathers, you are a very talented writer/story teller. I am in awe of your abilities. You make me think of "Anne of Green Gables".
I will be looking forward to the future chapters. Thankyou for sharing your story.

Chapter 24: The Small Ones

Fatima of the Gold-dust Feathers knew the Small Ones would come eventually. Before Olympia of Midnight was broody, she had told Fatima about the hatching of the eggs and what came from the eggs. The Small Ones. The peepers, the runners, the fluff balls. The aliens.
The Small Ones made Olympia more normal, certainly. But they were so strange! How could it be true that such an odd, tiny creature could grow up to be a hen like her?
And they were bold! Ophelia of the Chocolate Down told a tale of how one of the Small Ones charged at her, peeping for food. Ophelia being the sweet but simple hen she is, she squatted submissively. Sometimes Ophelia was just beyond Fatima.
The Great-Handed Ones were out in the coop all the time now, making adoring-noises to the Small Ones. Fatima felt very left out. And that feed the Small Ones got looked SOOOOOO good... Yet the Ones With Great Hands pushed her away when she tried to get at it! It was so unfair.
Even though it was raining, Fatima spent a great deal of time outside, trying to stay away from the Small Ones. She hoped that once the Small Ones were grown, Olympia would return as Lead Hen. It was very confusing to be bossed around by tiny Rita of the Small Flame.
