three years?!?! that is really young my oldest chicken is 6 years (jap. bantam) and could live up 12
Three years is actually a good age for a red star (sexlink). Sexlink/Commercial bird's average lifespan is 2-3 years, beacuse they lay so many eggs in their first couple years it weakens them and they die usually a lot early than heritage breeds and pure breeds.
Exactly. Rita has had a good life, and though she is one of our favorite hens and we are so sad that she is dying, she's reached the end of her lifespan.

I doubt it. It seems that she was first eggbound, then got an infection.

Who? Fatima? Not at all! Fatima is full-grown! Well, she's still cute, but not so much awkward. Just a bit of an idiot.
I also must ask: What mini story?
Sorry, am new at this forum, so I guess I kinda just hijacked the thread. Was just complimenting the story the first post lol. I guess that's a older picture of her?

That's fine. Yes, that pic of Fatima is from when she was about 3 or 4 weeks old. She's a big beautiful girl now- more recent pics are on pages 11, 7, and 4.
