The Saga of Fatima of the Gold-dust Feathers! UPDATED - Fatima died...

Yes, in fact I am uploading/ordering to Lulu.com today, and the book will be available to BYC'ers hopefully by Sunday! The books are estimated to cost between $12.50 and $16.50, without shipping.
By the way... would you be interested in buying the book from Amazon? That is an option... it may cost a little more, but I am under the impression there is free shipping.

I think Amazon has free shipping on select items if the total is over $25.
I'd be inclined to buy directly from you so you don't have to give $ to them. Your marketing is done for those of us here

Bravo whatever you do!

I would also like to buy directly from you since you would be able to sign the books if we bought from you directly. However, amazon does offer up your work to the world and not just us BYC'ers. I am in for a book regardless of what you decide, but I want mine signed by the author.

Hi folks-
This is Horsefeathers's mom.

She has been working hard formatting and editing her book and illustrations to try to get it printed soon. It's looking fantastic! I've just spent the morning figuring out what she needs to do to make this happen. Wanted to ask you a few things.

1) I think she originally thought the book would cost about $15.00. I don't know where she got that figure from, maybe she entered too few pages into the calculator? It looks like if we reformat it and condense the pages from what she's already laid out, she might be able to get it down to $23 or thereabouts. Is that going to be too expensive? I could suggest she cut out the illustrations and photographs in order to make even less pages (though it looks so great as she's got it right now ! It's like a nice coffee table book with story and photos.)
2) It turns out (if I am understanding the process correctly) that in order to sell the book on Amazon, they add a huge mark-up , so that's probably not going to happen. So, for ordering options there will most likely be these:
- you can order the book directly from the publishing house, (I think, at least!) and pay $4 shipping.
or
- she can get it shipped to her, sign it, and then ship it to you. That would increase your shipping costs to something like $8.50.

Before she goes ahead and borrows the capitol to get these books printed, I just wanted to make sure that those of you who are interested are comfortable with these changes. The publishing web sites are quite confusing and make it very difficult to see the real costs up front...

Thanks for your patience!

I would perfer it if it were cheaper. But I would buy it if it were a High Quality written story.
The Saga of Fatima of the Gold-dust Feathers is a High Quality written story and I would exchange my monthly merits for a book from HorseFeathers.

I would buy from the Publishing house.

Don't cut out illustrations or extras the Fatima story is the perfect chook publishing story.

Whishing you and your daughter the best of publishing

I would buy fm the publishing house & $23-$25 is what I was originally expecting to spend. You've had a chance to look the book over and I will go with your take on it as far as keeping the photo's & illustrations. I eagarly await the "go ahead" to order my initial 3 copies. I suspect Fatima will generate more interest than you might think right now.

I would still order the book at $23-25, but I would forego the signed copy to keep the cost down.

I don't know if it can happen or not but can she WATERMARK some of the pictures behind the text? (sorry, I work at a yearbook publishing company and was wondering! I have seen some pages that have pictures watermarked behind the senior pages etc, I am not sure how much that costs to do but. That would allow her to condense and also still have some of the pictures.

I agree the book is GREAT just how it is. for 4 bucks difference, I want her to sign mine LOL!!! Have you asked NIfty Chicken if it could be sold on BYC??? What is the difference in price from leaving it as is and condensing with pictures. I have been semi-following the goings on but have not paid that close attention.

Edited for a comparison.....People, on the 4 bucks difference in shipping, think of it like this. Forego stopping by McDonalds for a value meal for just ONE DAY Versus allowing Horsefeathers a HUGE ego/confidence boost. When you think of it that way....10 extra bucks is worth it and I am not a wealthy woman...just saying.

I'd go to $25 or more for her awesome art & pics. As much as I'd like it signed, I'd like the artwork more.
I like the idea of signing a 'sticker' (I forgot the term) to go in the front of the book.
Thanks Mom!

Yes, HorseFeathers are you still planning on signing a Label for those of us who wanted one to place in the front of our book when we get it?
