The Salvation Army Bell Ringers

Hubby was one of those bell ringers about five or six years ago...yes they are paid but in minimum wage and shifty hours!

Now I WONT give the SA ANY money or any gifts after I have heard what hubby and ex employees were saying. They are just as bad as the Red Cross.

We will continue to donate gifts or money TO the fire department or the Marine's sponsoring the toy drive.

Like Britannicas and Sanfrancisco Riding Gear? like Charlies Angels wore?

LOL, I did it for $$ for Christmas. I lived in Tacoma at the time, and I think minimum wage was about $1.75/hour! Of course that was back in the day when it was good for kids to work and make money to buy the things they thought they needed! I use to pick berries all summer also, I really needed designer jeans ya know!

I walked by one last Wed. at Walmart here and the guy said Happy Holloween!

I know they are running the season's together, but the guy was ringing a bell!

Cigs were .45 cents a pack and at 11 I could get them at the gas station vending machine, they were about 1.75 when I quit in 1984. Wow!, gotta quit aging myself.

Wow, they get PAID? I did volunteer bell ringing a few years back for a few Christmas seasons. And by volunteer, I mean I did not get paid a penny. Paying the bell ringers just seems...wrong.

How is it wrong? Many people that ring the bell are retired, handicapped, or just people trying to make ends meet. Minimum wage may put dinner on the table at Christmas for them.

That money going towards the wage x thousands of bell ringers could go towards the organizations own needs. Are people that allergic to volunteer work that there would be no bellringers even if they weren't paid? I guess the SA saw 'suckers' stamped on our foreheads when they asked us to volunteer and we agreed.
