The Second American Revolution

Read the book The World is Flat. It explains a lot of this stuff. Some of the reasons the foreign customer service happens is because (a) most Canadians and Americans don't necessarily want telemarketer or customer service jobs (it's quite an unforgiving position and the pay can suck), (b) time zones (the need to offer twenty-four-hour customer service -- it's daytime there when most of us are sleeping, so no one has to stay up all night sitting by the phone if they're working for a customer service department) and (c) the internet, which makes this all possible. There are companies in India that offer the customer service often offer language and accent classes to their employees; some get so good at speaking American-style English that we couldn't tell the difference. It depends on the company what you'll get though.

Because of technology, we will never be able to "seal off" the United States or Canada and make them some sort of North Korean-like secretive and separated countries.

On a somewhat unrelated note, why does anyone care if they have to push 1 to talk to someone in English? It's just a button; how lazy is that if you are mad that you have to pick between options?! I don't understand why there is this arrogant, elitist attitude (especially in America) that "everyone should speak English" and we shouldn't learn to communicate in any other language. It's basically ethnocentrism, which is disgustingly closed-minded.

We're such hypocrites when we are proud of our "melting pot" roots, but look haughtily down on immigrants or anyone who doesn't have some sort of European ethnic background that can be celebrated with parades and weekend holidays. We can celebrate Pulaski Days or dye an entire river green in honor of Ireland, but just keep those Hispanics out of the neighborhoods and by no means should we ever have a Black president... Pathetic.

I work in an office called the "Global Business Center" - kinda in my blood to help students learn what it means to have a global work experience.

American's are foreigners to more people than are foreigners to us.

As for being alone in wanting French as an option for customer service... I was a French major in my undergrad, so miss speaking it sooo much!

Have you ever notice that Bill is Hindu for Sanjay?

A little education, just for fun...

Hindi is a language that is used in part of India.

Hindu is a religious philosophy practiced by some people in India.

All Hindi speaking people are not Hindu. Practicing Hinduism does not mean that you speak Hindi.

What about Sin co de Mio or Martin Luther King Jr. Goverment employees get a day off. I have no problems with hispanics, just illegal immigrants.
If I visit a foriegn country I should be able to communicate (at least a little) or carry a book to translate. If I move to that country maybe I should make the effort to learn the language. But then again maybe that country should hire language teachers for my children and never have to put forth the effort to learn. Makes me wonder why I'd want to move in the first place.
I have no poblems with a black or a woman president. Just give me better choices.

Obituary
Common Sense

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.

He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, life isn't always fair, and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn) and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not children are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job they themselves failed to do in disciplining their unruly children. I t declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer Aspirin, sun lotion or a sticky plaster to a student; but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became
contraband; churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a be ating when you
couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar can sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to
realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap,
and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his d aughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by three stepbrothers; I Know my Rights, Someone Else is to
Blame, and I'm a Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Sorry double post. Internet acting up.

All my great grandparents were immigrants. They suffered some if the same racism
that immigrants suffer today. Actually it was a lot worse. The struggled they endured
made them stronger and BETTER AMERICANS.

The main difference I see are two attitudes. 1-They came here to be Americans, not
to make America like the "old country". 2-They insisted their sons and daughters
become Americans and integrate into the society.

Many immigrants today have the same attitudes, unfortunately many don't and our
liberal, pandering, politically correct attitudes are hurting everyone.

The true "elitists" are the people arrogant enough to believe thier liberal visions of
social engineering actually work. Study history, they don't.

When I was in Europe I was embarrased that I couldn't speak ANY of the languages,
but that is my fault, not my country or society.
