The shed is here.... OMG NOW WHAT!

The people were VERY nice to work with. There was a mishap with the shipping (Fedex issue) and the delivery was delayed until the Friday before Labor Day. I called them and was given a cell number so that I could reach someone over the holiday weekend if I had any trouble with installing it. Which was so nice - but it turned out to be un-necessary. If you already have a hole in the wall - it really is just as simple as drilling holes and putting bolts in.
It moves very slowly and only makes a little bit of noise - my girls aren't the least bit afraid of it. I haven't actually SEEN them going out in the morning but I'd be willing to bet that they are all piled up waiting for it to open and pushing and shoving to get through it before it's even all the way open. LOL

I am so asking for one of these for Christmas! I want one that does it's job opening and closing on its own just because I am lazy and don't like to get up early. ;)

duno if it's been brought up or not, but have no floor, and just use the DLM method. works great on a dirt floor, and allows the chickes to forage while in the coop as well...
- just my .5 cents

Topher, I do not have a floor either.... Technically, I think there used to be a floor there that rotted away and now it's just dirt. I toss fresh straw in there every few days or so and leave it at that. Seems to be working well for now, I guess we will know more when the winter cold gets here. Ha!

Great building. The windows will add calmness to your flock. They do love to sit near the window and look out. The screen door sounds like an excellent idea, I would also include an outside door so that no attack animals can get in at night. You are blessed.

Thank you. Yes, I am very blessed. There has been quite a lot going on down at the coop. I'll have to get a real update and some more pictures posted soon.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!!

I didn't take time to read all the posts but would like to see pics of the finished project. Probably too late but I would cover the opening at top with hardware cloth and make a hinged cover you can close in the winter. With a floor in it there would be no need for the hardware cloth under it. Let the air circulate under the floor and no vapor barrier is necessary either. Sounds like you have a good plan for the door.

I WAS going to get some updated picts of the shed coop this weekend - BUT - someone has offered me a couple of Jersey Giant-x hens so my quarantine coop jumped to the top of the list.
I've had this huge crate sitting next to the driveway for a long time so I put it into service today.

Shoved it over on it's side to get an idea of it's usefullness.
As it sits - 4' wide, 3.5' tall, 2' deep. That'll do!

Then walked it across the drive and attached legs to give it 24" clearance underneath.

Cut up the old lid to close in the open side - which will be the end of the tractor/coop/box...

Made a door out of the rest of the lid - WITH a nice screen (o:

Door works (ya know.. that's sometimes an issue with my doors...)
All those blocks in the back were some sort of bracing for what ever was shipped in this thing.

I don't know what the box in the top corner was.. more bracing I guess. Might come in handy for something though.
You can see the doggie door in the lower back corner - that will open to the ramp & run.

Since it's supposed to be a tractor, I HAD to test it. I shoved a wheel barrow under it and moved it the 25' or so into the barn. It'll be MUCH easier once the handles are 8' instead of 2' long...
It still needs paint (most if it is untreated...) a door latch and more ventilation. Plus, of course the run underneath and behind.... But this is a good start for today. (o:

Hurra says "That had BETTER be for more hens!! We don't need no more roos around here!!"

Amen Hurra... amen.
