I have an identity question on a 9.5 week old chick that was labeled as an Australorp when I bought her from Jax. I picked out 2 and they looked much the same until one of them started to get reddish head and neck feathers and her feet are black instead of the yellow color of the other one. Can anyone tell me if this is normal or do I have another breed? I've tried to research but couldn't find an Australorp with this coloring. The last picture is the one that I'm pretty sure is an Australorp. The first 3 are the chick in question.

You know, I had the same experience, only mine came from eggs I ordered from MPC. Some eggs were clearly labeled BA for black australorp, while others looked more like BH, only with no BH on the code list included nor anything else I could think of that would make sense. I got six, a boy and two girls who look like real australorps and a boy and two girls who don’t. I only have three of the girls left, one real and two questionable. The questionable cockerel had red leakage like yours does; the pullets have varying amounts of yellow leakage. Is it something known only to the breeder, or just not so hot quality australorps? I suspect the latter. Mine shipped from NC, in case yours may have come from the same place, however, I saw another member here with the same confusion lately. Here’s the one I think looks like she’s supposed to. I’ll try to tangle some pics of the others.

I did wonder about that. As with Danes, random breeding usually produces random quality. I don't need a show bird, but I would like to know just who is in the flock. Thank you!
