The Sizzle Thread!

Question: As I was recently given 2 little unwanted "Ooops" ... I have 2 Silkie/BCM mix. Father Black Silkie roo with BCM Hen. Both have turned out to be Roo's; neither have 5 toes or dark skin; but I have just purchased several sizzles and one smooth sizzle. Is it possible to get back some of the recessive genes from breeding the Mix Silkie breeds with the Sizzles? I have never bred any of mine but I have been considering it. Interested in anyone's opinion on it! Thanks!

I believe you could but it would be a slim chance and could only show in a VERY small percentage of your resulted chicks. I do believe as well you would also get unwanted genes from the BCM side that could take a while breeding back out. I am not an expert by any means, but that's just what I think hopefully someone can follow with a better response:)

That's what I would figure...but worth asking. The 2 roo's that I was given are both very small which surprised me considering the BCM is such a large breed. At this point I only know that the smooth splash sizzle is a hen; the others too young to tell so was hoping I could use the roos I have but don't want to mess up a good thing.

I understand that I have the cutest black silkie roo but he is nothing but a pet in my daughters pin but I did think about breeding him to a sizzle but the decided against it because I didn't want to get any unwanted features.

Just got my first babies and need some help guessing the sexes. I have 4 (black (roo?) black (hen?) Blond (????) smooth Blue (hen?)

Please tell me what you think they are. THANKS!

The first photo- Black - I'm guessing roo- has very distinct comb and it's wattles have grown a lot in just the 5 days I've had him. The color of the comb and wattles is pretty much charcoal but turns very red when he sees the dogs. He is always very alert and upright. Seems to be watching over the other birds and is quite a bit bigger than the other black chick and the blue and a little bit bigger than the blond. More masculine features (to me anyway.)

Second Photo- Black- I am guessing hen- has not comb or wattles at all and usually stands with her neck stretched more parallel to the ground rather than upright. She likes to climb under the other birds so she is at the bottom of the pile whenever possible. And she is a hog. She is the most inquisitive when it comes to pecking around. Very fine featured compared to the others.

Third Photo- Blonde- I don't know what this one is. My fingers are crossed that it's a hen because I can't have roosters but, she does have a very small comb that pretty much matches her feathers and very small wattles the same color. She is not as big as the black one in the first photo but she is larger than the others. There is nothing too distinctive about her behavior or posture that I can tell.

Fourth Photo- Blue- I think this one might be a hen- no comb or wattle at all. Very fine featured. The calmest of all four. Tends to settle in quickly and sit around a lot.

So, what are your best guesses? Any information would be appreciated!

Thanks!
