The Sizzle Thread!

Pics
Hi All,
I don't get much time to post but I've been trying my best to keep up with this thread. I am really impressed with all the Sizzle lovers & breeders on here & I love seeing the pictures of all the beautiful Sizzles.
I don't know if any of you have reached the point of showing your Sizzles but I've been showing my cuties for about 4 years now & having a ball while doing it. I love all the attention the Sizzles get & the great comments people make. Just wanted to let all you Sizzle lovers know that my Sizzles & Frizzled Silkies have gotten a great start for the 2013 show season - doing great at all the shows, including the Western Nationals at Stockton in Jan. Of course, my birds were the only ones competing ;-), but...I took only my best SQ birds & none of them had any faults so I figure they deserved their ribbons. PLUS...this year the judges really took notice & I got some great comments - written on the coop cards & also in person. I got a lot of "++ type" written on the cards & 1 judge even commented that - had my Sizzles been Silkies, they could easily have gone BB - they scored that well. Now THAT was worth more than any ribbons or trophies. Hmm. Maybe I can comb them out & use a straightener for the next show! The star of the show was "Swiffer" my silver blue Sizzle. Everyone seemed to love him. Thanks to him, I sold out of all my Sizzle chicks & I have a waiting list for chicks & hatching eggs. Two last brags & then I'll post some pictures. A Sizzle pullet from my line, hatched from eggs that I sold, recently sold on Poultry Bid for $225!! Of course, I didn't get the money, but luckily, I've hatched out & kept about 20 more just like her so if money gets any tighter, you may see a couple of them up for auction. Then, the frosting on the cake was having my Sizzles featured in an article in an issue of Hobby Farm Magazine. What a great start for 2013!! Sorry for all the bragging, but I'm just really excited. I've worked long & hard on this Sizzle project for over 14 gen. now & it's really nice to get some recognition for this unique breed.

Here is Swiffer & some of my other Sizzles.

Terrible picture of this hen but the judges seem to love her & she usually gets BV.

The rest of these pullets are only 4-5 mo & too young for nationals but I hope to show them later this year.

Thanks for reading my ramblings.

Hey sheri its Gina from down in Paso Robles, just picked up a copy of the Hobby farm magazine! Your birds look amazing. Im so excited out of the chicks I

got from you this summer I have a frizzled silkie pullet, smooth sizzle pullet and a sizzle pullet. They're so much fun, I included a pic of my black sizzle!

Hello! I am a long time reader first time caller if you will, of this thread. We just added 4 sweet young sizzles to our flock yesterday. 3 blue, and 1 is either a black or a mottled. They are all a little over 3 weeks old, and are magnificent birds! They along with 2 paint silkie chicks were my anniversary present from my husband. I look forward to sharing my pictures! I am totally new to the breed and have been carefully stalking this thread! So, hello! I look forward to sharing the growth of these great peeps with you!

!!!!! Congrats on your newest additions! Such sweeties they are!

Well here are the babies please any feedback is very appreciated this is my first time ever even being in the presence of these birds let alone owning them!! :)

I was told a frizzled paint silkie had 'him' a day. His name is Rorshac

Blue sizzle(?) 1

younger blue sizzle (?) 2

blue sizzle (?) 3

black or mottled sizzle (?)

These little guys are so friendly and so sweet. We also got a regular paint silkie but I didnt add Spot's picture on this thread. Please let me know what i've got any guesses or input would be amazing! thank you!!!

your first is paint frizzled silkie (might be a regular paint silkie, you'll have to see how it feathers out) but your 2nd bird is not sizzled, it's frizzled. it will have kinky silkie feathering or it may grow up to look very much like a silkie. best to breed these back to sizzles, smooth or rough. if you get too much silkie blood, you will end up with alot of kinky or reg silkie feathering and lose your barbed feathering.

Blue sizzle(?) 1 no, probably a frizzled silkie.

That's great Gina. You got all 3 varieties. Your black Sizzle is very nice & I'd love to see pics of the others - especially the frizzled Silkie. I really like the Frilkies so I'm continuing to breed for them along with the Sizzles. It's fun to get 4 varieties in every hatch!! Are you going to show yours at Stockton next year?

I agree with your identification, but if either of them turns out frizzled then I think they should only be bred to a smooth bird - either smooth Sizzle or a Silkie. Otherwise you're doubling up on the frizzle gene & you'll be taking a chance on getting the double curlies with brittle feathers. And you're right - if silkiemomma42 wants Sizzles only, then she should definitely breed back to the Sizzle line. However, I really like the frizzled Silkies too & since they are recognized as a breed, it's more fun to show them since they can even go Best in Show - not that they ever would of course. That's one of those pie-in-the-sky dreams but it's fun to think about.

Good morning!
Can anyone suggest a Hatchery to buy Frizzles from? I have 2 silkie hens and a silkie rooster but would like to expand. Love all the adorable pics!! Thank you for any info
