As a first time Silkie mom, I'm being patient about the sex of my silkie chick. As a first time Sizzle mom, do I also need to be patient? The past few days, my sizzle chick has developed a big tail. I'm not sure if it's indicative of sex or not.

Here's a picture of Cher, a 5-wk old blue sizzle. The picture is a bit blurry, and she's standing on a white floor, in front of a white silkie, so it looks like she has 2 sets of legs. If you can avoid focusing on those picture shortcomings, maybe you can see Cher's big tail.

Any ideas on gender?

What generation is your Sizzle, like, how long has the breeder been working on them?

I've found with mine, as I get closer to Silkie type, they're more like my Silkies when it comes to telling gender (as in, they're really hard to sex). Sorry, I don't know what gender it is, but its adorable.

I've found with mine, as I get closer to Silkie type, they're more like my Silkies when it comes to telling gender (as in, they're really hard to sex). Sorry, I don't know what gender it is, but its adorable.

I believe Cher is a first generation Sizzle--and the breeder is an NPIP in Coatesville, IN, named skycladfaerielady (Paris Gannon). I recall her saying she's been doing it for a few years now, but I think it's less than 10.

Since I'm a sizzle newbie, what are the differences in generations of sizzles?

10 generations is a while. So, if you were to start from scratch, your initial crossing of Cochin x Silkie, those chicks would be your F1 chicks, your first Gen. Then the next chicks would be the second and so on and so on. I hope that makes sense!

I have two sizzles. Mother is silkie/frizzle cochin, father Silkie. Should sizzles be bred sizzle to flat feathered sizzle or sizzle to silkie, as I have done? Their mother has a terrible time keeping her feathers they are not brittle but are delicate

I've been breeding mine back to Silkies to improve type. I get smooths, Sizzles (regular feathered frizzles), frizzled Silkies and regular Silkies doing it this way. Once I get their type where I want it, I plan to breed the smooths and Sizzles together.

Is your hen a frazzle? My Sizzles manage to keep all of their feathers, even with the roosters mounting them. If she is a frazzle, you should get all frizzled chicks. I started my Sizzle project with a frazzled Cochin. I don't have her anymore, but she gave me lots of Sizzles to get a good start on my project. I just kept the best ones, and sold everyone else, including her

A sizzle IS a frizzle silkie...and therfore a frizzle.

Frizzle/frizzle is bad (brittle feathers, loss of feathers, susceptible to illness and sometimes shorter lifespan...bad).

So...A sizzle, being a frizzle, paired with another sizzle...is bad (double frizzle gene?) Or am I way off?

Trying to help a friend who wants to breed them, and I only know bits and pieces of the genetics thing.
