The Sizzle Thread!

I apologize, I though OP asked if breeding a SIZZLE splash to smooth would give her frizzles/sizzles. I didn't realize it said silkie splash to smooth sizzle! That makes sense now.

But just to get the other part right, they would all have barbed (cochin) feathers?
Never mind, I reread it and think I figured it out! Thanks

Here is a sikie chick with father being a white silkie and mother being a blue grey sizzle hen.
Will it be curly?

Looks like it may be a frizzled silkie or silkie but not a sizzle

Genetics & breeding experts: If a white silkie roo and blue sizzle with red leakage breed, what are the other offspring possibilities, in addition to the above combination?

As far as feathering you can get 4 different types; sizzle, frizzled silkie, smooth sizzle, and silkie. I am no genetics expert but I believe anytime you breed white with anything other than white you can get just about anything. 2 whites make white, but white can hide other colors in its genetic makeup so if you're not breeding 2 whites it's pretty unpredictable. (White is recessive) I hope that's correct. I've not really delved into color genetics, maybe someone with more experience/expertise will speak up.

My sizzle babies. Momma is a black with white tipped feathers sizzle F1 silkie to frizzle Cochin. Dad is a Blue Partridge silkie. One has a straight comb :( moms feather are very brittle and when with a rooster just break off. Is there anything that can be done to prevent that?

Momma. No she is not frazzled. Her babies are only 25% frizzled.

She is probably a Frazzle which carries double Sizzle. Other than keeping her away from roos there isn't much you can do. She may have a real problem staying warm in the winter depending where your located.

I have seen people put a little cover on hens that have bare spots from roosters. I think they call it a saddle. You could search around here on byc, there are people that sell them. It might give her a chance to grow the feathers back and not have her back exposed.
