The roosters are gone. Being in Alaska I do not normally keep roosters past mid May. This year I have a Judy Lee Paint/black baby. I may lend him out for next summer rather than sell him. But with the long days I cannot stand crowing at 3 am or having to catch them to lock them up at night. So no rooster since then. And her cranky butt is the boss, so she is not being picked upon. Last winter I brought her into the garage if it got below 10 degrees. She sleeps under the other birds.

I'm on my phone and can't see where everyone is located. If she has wintered up there she sure doesn't have a problem keeping warm. I would up her protein. Down here we have something called feather fixer. I don't know if you can get it there. Last year my birds had a late molt and I switched their feed to 22% and they grew their feathers back really fast. The hen aprons really do work. Now the farmers sure have laughed at me for dressing up my hens.

My sizzle babies. Momma is a black with white tipped feathers sizzle F1 silkie to frizzle Cochin. Dad is a Blue Partridge silkie. One has a straight comb moms feather are very brittle and when with a rooster just break off. Is there anything that can be done to prevent that?

Momma. No she is not frazzled. Her babies are only 25% frizzled.

Yes! Saddles are a savior. I think you can buy them here on BYC or I have gotten a few off Amazon. For the sizzles I would would do a medium size. Small is really small, or pull your rooster for a while so she doesn't developed sores. With all 9 of my roos girls broody or raising babies, he stripped the back of the last girl in less than a day. Pulled her and put her in with the broody clan.

My daughter on our walk last night. Her smooth sizzle roos are so sweet to her. She holds them like babies and walks with them with no issues. Very sweet boys.

Some babies we hatched last night. What color do you think the lightest one will feather out? We've never hatched one so light from two blue/black parents. Just a lighter blue?

It looks like my splash, but it could be very light blue- however, black cannot make splash. So, either it has 2 blue parents, or its very light blue. Not much help, huh?

Parents are super dark "blue" but one hens head is black. So what is actually "black" ....whole body black? :/ Either way, splash would be awesome. We only have one other splash silkie.

Black X Black = 100% Black
Splash X Splash = 100% Splash
Splash X Black = 100% Blue

So certainly could be splash

And Im not sure if a small amount of black makes black. My guess is she's blue and thats just a darker area.

But I dont really know.
