The SMELL!!!

My husband is going to think I'm nuts for sure. He already busts my horns for cooking for the dogs. When I start "cooking" for the chickens I just can't imagine what he's gonna say!

He'll change his tune if you let him know fermenting feed reduces all sorts of bills --- feed bill, medical bill, and the miscellaneous other costs incurred in trying to keep an environment healthy and smelling nice when the animals living in it are stinking it out with their poor health. ;)

Seriously, it's a huge saving in many ways, not just immediate feed costs and deodorizing costs but also in future health problems one can avoid by giving them a leg up so to speak in terms of everyday health.

Best wishes.

I had a little smell when mine were in the house I changed the bedding about twice a week I've had no smell since moving them to the coop outside and have only changed the bedding in the coop once in a few months could just be the smell from being in a smaller space and not as good ventilation

I had mine in the coop for 2 months. I turned the shavings & used PDZ. It just started to get pungent. I decided to use pine shreds this time (less dust) & I added a LOT more PDZ. When they start using the roost with poop board, I think that will help. Right now they are still in a huddle on the floor! I'm down to 17, with 3 more going to my youngest son. Fewer chickens will also help! When the weather here heats up, I know it will be smelly in the heat

They LOVE the soaked food! I started soaking some Friday night and gave it to them Saturday morning. So now I've been soaking about 12 hours and feeding twice a day. The definatly don't eat much over night so I threw out some in the morning. I guess it will take a little time to get the amounts right to eliminate waste.
