What kind of Marans do you have ? In my siggy you can see all the different kinds I have.
I have one lonely cuckoo Maran. The ones I found are the French Black. She really needs more of her type to keep her company. She is at the bottom of the pecking order and I am hoping some sisters might change that a little or at least they can have their own little Maran clan . Eventually I want to seperate my breeds anyway and will need more. Marans were one of the first breeds I fell in love with. Javas as well. I am waiting for sure to start them up again after the move.

Well in the last 24 hours this forum seems as if it has turned into an advice, pep talk, esteem builder forum.

Here is my dilemma
I am almost 60yrs, old I have done nothing with my life other then work on our farm, be a mom , a DW, a school bus driver and lastly for the last 16 yrs a semi truck driver with my DH. Other then that I have no others skills.
Last year I was displaced from my job with a balance disorder.
After PMing a member on this thread I am thinking of going to school (Baker College). The problem is I am scared to death. I have no idea what I want to do. And if I do go the money issue. Would it be worth me going to school for 2 - 4 years to get a degree at my age?
I don't even know if I have the smarts to go and sometimes I question my common sense.
Any input?

I am younger but I went back to college later than most of my friends and to me it has been worth it !! It wasn't easy to start with but I hung in there and I am so proud of myself for that . It is a great feeling to accomplish new things. I say go for it.. No one is ever to old to learn new things and enjoy it. My grandmother went back in her late 50s and got her GED. We were all proud of her.

Marans are my favorite breeds, the FBCM's being #1. My regular cuckoo's are ok, but the blue cuckoo's and the Golden Cuckoo's beat the regular ones out in my book. I also have a Golden Salmon Marans hen that I am looking for a rooster for. If you were in Mi I could set you up with some

I say go for it and Baker is an excellent college. If the money is a problem go to the financial department and get aid. NEVER too old to learn. Knowledge is power my friend.

I am 62 years old - but I want to talk about my mother, not about me. When my mother was 62 years old, she wanted to go back to school. She had spent her earlier years being a wife and a mother and working at job she didn't particularly enjoy but which provided needed income. When she thought of going back to school, she wondered the same things you're wondering - if it was worth it to go back to school at her age, would she be able to do the work; after being out of school for so many years, would she have problems completing assignments and doing research, etc. She decided to give it a try - nothing ventured, nothing gained. She got her college degree and even went on to get a masters degree. She started a whole new career in her mid-60s.

In 5 years, you'll be 65 years old. You can be 65 and not have a degree - or you can be 65 and have a degree and have many more opportunities than you would if hadn't gone back to school.

As far as money - research scholarships. I think there are websites that search for scholarships based on all kinds of factors. Good luck!

Go for it!!

I have 3 associates and a bachelor's. I'd love to go back to school but I still owe money on my last degree which is stupid since it was supposed to have been forgiven. I have filed for the forgiveness program 5x and been authorized 4. It's about to be the 6th. Dept of Ed.
