The Society of Truth, an RP

"You're right. From what we know of the Programmer, we can tell that he trusts no one but himself. He would expect us to make the maybe more logical move of getting far away from him. If we instead get close, it could throw them off even more while we gather more recruits, and find a way to get off this island," Lila said.
Alina did not reply for an excruciatingly long moment, before shaking her head. "With growing numbers in the Society, the potential for misadventure would increase - exponentially."

She was deep in thought and Calder regarded her with an air of mixed awe and amusement.

"Yes. Maybe the new members could continue to live their lives, while the fugitives, like us, could stay in the palace," Lila mused.

"We need to stay small," Alina eventually murmured, half to herself. She was in her own world, completely forgetting that anyone else was around. "Or to evade the weakness of human nature; namely, giving something away."

She was pacing in circles, her eyes giving off tiny, bright blue sparks. Then they lit on the screen. "A robot. You can't torture a robot."

Then her eyes met Mark's. He was grinning and she stopped abruptly, but the glimmering of her eyes revealed that her brain was still working hard.

"I've got it," Mark spoke up, "I'll plant a robot, or a device of some sort near them, with false information about where we are. Do you think it could work?"

Mark's idea was a good one. But Alina knew that to speak enough about her idea for the others to understand would be to be vulnerable. She shuddered inwardly at the thought. Yet... her mission. She had promised herself to carry it through.

She turned around and faced Calder, Lila and Mark.
"If you'd... listen a moment..." she began.
Calder smirked. "What further madness do you have in store?"
"When I have finished, then you will be able to judge whatever you might wish to, Calder McKenna!" she retorted instantly. Calder's surprise showed on his face, and Alina continued.

"Why was I selected to be a Protector?" she asked, "What is it that the Programmer sees? I must disagree with your point, Lila, that he does not trust. At least, we are more trusted than others. We know the secret."

She strode to the window and gazed out of it. "No man is an island, this one included, and trust is not something out of reach for anyone."

There was a long silence.

"He puts a premium on loyalty. We know what the consequence would be if any of us were exposed. Yet he is no hypocrite - that we know of." she trailed off as realisation dawned on the faces around her.

"You mean that he may be on our side? That he might actually believe in us?" Mark was confused.

A blurry figure appeared then focused. It was Camila, the new recruit. "I'm sorry but I was listening to most of the conversation" she said "I'd like to help out in whatever way I can"
Alina shook her head, flushing. "I'm sorry. I meant that perhaps he is loyal too, so if one of us could gain his trust we could..." she trailed off.

"Yeah, it was a stupid idea," she muttered. Calder stepped forward and reached up to put a hand on her shoulder.
"Na. Crazy, but not quite stupid." he said, "I think there's something in it."

Alina turned, sensing someone's presence behind her. A new recruit; she didn't recognise her. "And you are...?"

"I'm Camila" She said "as you can see, my power is invisibility, I feel like it could be very useful."
