The start of our Turkey "Palace" house *updated pics*

Your brooder is great with the cut out doors in between too funny. Looks like it does the trick for now they seem to have plenty of room.
We moved our meat birds tonight they seem so much roomier and happier.

Its funny because I sometimes expect chicks to stay so tiny for so long. When we got our first batch of chickens(our layers) we were planning to keep them in a fish tank(silly me that would have held them for a second) we happened to have scrap plywood from building our first coop so I threw these brooders together. They work great so far.

I forgot to give a final total of the house

LOTS OF FREE PALLETS

total cost for other supplies roughly
original plywood and 2x4=$150
ice and water sheild for roof=$100
Hardware cloth=$50
3 hinges and 2 handles=$15.00
additional 2x4=$27.00

drip edge for the roof
additional plywood
2 door hinges
1 handle
2 sash locks= $50

(oh and the dr visit=$94 and the bill on the way was $55) doesnt really count but I thought Id put it in)

They are doing great in their new house. It has SOOOO much room for them so I think its fantastic. They are so anxious to get our and start running around outside But im keeping them inside till 8 weeks old so they have tim eto build their immunity. That will also give me time to get the fence put up. So I hope in the next 2 weeks we have an enclosed fenced area for them. The flooring in the house is just fine. I find with a thick layer of pine shavings the floor stays dry.I stir the shavings every once in a while and then add new fresh shavings on top. I do the same in my small turkey house the chicken coop and the brooder. So far so good. SOOOOOOO how are your meat birds? and are you making progress on that pallet coop? How old are your Turkeys also, are you housing them with your chicks or chickens?

The meaties are little eating machines! Lol. They eat the food faster than I can make it. Their getting big though, real fast! I lost a little turkey today. A hawk had lunch on me. I'm not upset about it. A coyote attacked my sheep (the one in my avatar, Cesar) this week and he passed away this morning. So I was more upset about that, ya know? It's crazy living in the country lol. The things that can happen to you animals. SMH

Ive been slacking on the coop. It's just been so hot here you really can't work outside from like 11am-8pm without melting lol. I've been housing the BR chicks with the meaties in the hoop coop in the day and bringing them inside at night so I won't find any squished little black chicks. Lol.
But I was thinking about getting the second set of walls up later on. So if I do ill throw up some pics tonight. If not ill for sure do it in the morning when its really cool.

Gosh how you motivate me to do work lol. Your the only reason the first set of walls is up! Lol I appreciate it though!

SO its been awhile since I posted anything new here But I thought I would update the progress. We have been working on the turkeys enclosure. We had a chainlink fence that was given to us for free

(my favorite num lol). It took us some time but we finally got the fence up and finished yesterday. Today we will put pvc piping up over the top of the chain link fence to create a high arch over the fence. And then next week will put aviary type net over the top to completly enclose the run. I will update those pics as I go also.

Once the fence is fully done with the pvc pipes and net I will move on to adding tree branch roosts and an outside nesting area made out of small pallets and a few other undecided things to make it look prettier. And yes eventually I hope they will have plants and such growing maybe inside and definitely outside around their run.
