The stock market looks bad.

Opinions have nothing to do with the allowance of socialism. The chance of socialism taking over would be more to do with the idleness of Americans, which unfortunately is plaguing our freedoms.

Every time there is talk of socialist ideas(40% stake in Citi Bank, nationalizing health care, stimulus package, etc.) the stock market plummets. Pay attention to the correlations and stop watching the main stream media put their spin on what going on and you'll see it is true.

Wow, I really do not appreciate you questioning my intelligence, I do not rely on any one source for my beliefs or information. I do pay attention, thank you.
And, opinions do matter, it is people like myself with strong opinions that work on changing things and actively participate in their communities. It is people who just give up and think their opinion does not matter any more, that create idleness.

You should reread my post. I was not questioning your intelligence before, but now I'm beginning to question your comprehension skills.

I'm old enough to remember when we were encouraged to save, to pay cash (imagine that!!) for purchases, and to not use credit. Now it's being pushed as unpatriotic to not have and use credit for absolutely everything. Back in the day you had to have 20% down to purchase a house, you at least had a stake in the game, and home prices were in line with salaries. Now the only way you can get into a home is to mortgage yourself to the hilt, I can't imagine ever believing I could pay off a $250,000 mortgage. So people just get used to credit cards to buy all the stuff we're told we 'need', charge everything, you're already in so much debt for the house what does a couple grand more mean?

We are a nation of credit, and really, where has it got us? We're crumbling under a crushing debt load. It amazes me that they continue this push to 'open up the credit markets'. Oh, I get it, if they're open people will spend more - of their future - and goods and services will continue to flow. I guess I'm unpatriotic, or just plain old fashioned. This overuse of credit is no good for anyone but the lenders, and now they're in trouble, crumbling under the load of debit throughout our financial markets. What a mess.

A great thing about this country is if we do not like it we can move!
Or get active and try to make a difference, not just whine.

Thats a good one! Telling someone that gave 22 years in the defense of this country to move out and quit whining! When you have done as much, you can tell me that!

Or maybe we can all just dig deeper in our pockets and let the government keep robbing us to benefit people making bad decisions.

No, I'm not moving. And I don't think it's appropriate to say someone is whining just because they state an opinion that is different than yours. I am active in making a difference. I fully participate in all elections. I was in the armed services. When I see government violating rights and overstepping their bounds, I scream loud. I'm not going to be a sheep that follows blindly and believes everything fed to me by politicians and the media. Insinuating that people who disagree with you are whiners is insulting. Let's all play nice so the thread doesn't get closed.

***I gave a warning at the beginning of this thread to keep things civil. In stating that, I meant let's keep our heads on straight and be polite/courteous to each other. I am certain that when the OP started this thread, they had no intentions of starting fights. This is the last warning or this thread will be closed. Here are a few rules for a reminder to all -
3. No Flaming (verbally attacking people or groups of people - e.g. a profession, an organization, a company.)
4. No Trolling (posting to provoke others, luring them to flame or rant). Trolling is sometimes done involuntary, so please be considerate when posting.
5. No teasing, mocking, ridiculing, or otherwise making fun at other member's expense.

This thread may not last much longer but I have really enjoyed it. Thanks to everyone who has tried to keep it civil.

I agree 1 Acre,

It has been interesting, we are all in the same boat, but it is clear that we all have different ideas.

I don't know what the answers are, I am just muddling along right now but I am very concerned for the future and for my sons.

In the UK I really think that so many people here are also looking to America for answers. This could be because we are now so disillusioned with our own politicians that we are looking in your direction for help...lol.

Certainly seems that way.

I am gonna do my best not to rely on the government. It is apparent to me they are clueless. I just hope if and when crap hits the fan the government does not confiscate my crops to give them to those too lazy to grow their own.
