The Story of Hops, deformed joint that will not hold tendon in place. Vet said prognosis is not good

I think it can go either way, slow or mysterious death.
Vaccs only protect against it they do not prevent it.
If you have taken him to the vet, I am sure it is the tendon.
I think he will get along just fine!

Hops is doing well still. His feathers have grown in nicely and I am hoping that today I will be able to take some new pictures of him. His leg is still off to the side but he is still eating, drinking and "playing" with his girls very well. I am very curious to see what kind of rooster he will grow up to be with the deformity. He is such a sweetheart!

Just saw your thread and I am glad to hear Hops is doing well. I have a one legged rooster and a hen with a slipped tendon [accident split the joint and it slips out alot now] they are doing great. The roo has special wide/cushioned roosting spots and the hen can roost anywhere. I can manually put the tendon in place, somedays it stays in all day other days its out more than in.
Chickens are very adaptable. Make sure Hops gets lots of energy foods and keep his weight down and he should be fine. LOL

I'd love to see current pictures of Hops. I'm glad to hear he's doing OK.

My little chicken who had to sit in a chicken chair for 4 days because she hurt herself and couldn't walk is doing well. She's not so little any more, and now she walks fine. I'm so glad I kept her alive - a few people told me to cull her. She's my favorite big girl now.

He mostly just sits around and hangs out. I will go out and try to get some other pictures of him walking on his one leg. His leg is all deformed so don't be alarmed! He is happy, healthy and is treated very nicely by the other chickens. I never thought I would have a "special" chicken that has a deformed growth plate and not a deep groove for a tendon to fit!

I got a chance to run out today and spend some quality time with the babies! Therefore I have some updated pictures of Hops! What kind of bird do you think he is by any chance?



He really enjoys digging in the pine needles!





He literally has the most beautiful feather I have ever seen!





He can stand up for a few seconds but will then settle back down into his spot.

He really is turning into a HANDSOME fellow! To ease your mind on "will he be able to get around" This is a picture of "Limpy", he had a compound fracture of his leg when he was a chick and nothing was ever done to it. He lived 3 years like this and passed from kidney failure. He also kept watch over his domain sitting.......
