The Story of Hops, deformed joint that will not hold tendon in place. Vet said prognosis is not good

He really is turning into a HANDSOME fellow! To ease your mind on "will he be able to get around" This is a picture of "Limpy", he had a compound fracture of his leg when he was a chick and nothing was ever done to it. He lived 3 years like this and passed from kidney failure. He also kept watch over his domain sitting.......

LONG LIVE HOPS!!!

Thank you very much! Sorry to hear about Limpy though with the whole kidney failure thing. I appreciate everyone's kinds words and it is really nice to know that I am not alone in any of this. I love my chicken family!

Hello;
I just found this thread while searching for what could be wrong with one of my
one month old chicks.
I have 17 from the last batch out of the incubator and just the other day I noticed that
one of them walks funny. As I started paying more attention, it looks like the hock joint
slips out when she walks. It really creeps me out. She bears weight on the leg and walks and
runs around and does not seem to be in any pain. Will it always be that way? Will it get worse?
Thanks

Well the joint shouldn't really "slip out" per say it is the TENDON that does the slipping out. The tendon is what allows the chicken to bend the leg, ya know move it around and such.

So if it is the TENDON that is slipping out there are several things you can do. You can find it all on google just be searching for a slipping tendon or even in the emergency section on the forums. There is a link that will send you to the chicken podiatrists website.
