the sultan thread

Yeah I'm starting to think Jack might be a Jaqueline....how often does that happen?! It would be GREAT because it means I get to hold onto a roo from the set hatching this weekend :D

My little surprise Sultan is almost certainly a boy. His cochin siblings have begun picking on him Making me worry about what to do with him.My other small coop had a japanese with her 3 crossed bred chicks in it. She was not accepting of the sultan being in her coop. Then my son came and took all my japanese to his house but left the babies here, they went into a blue funk and quit eating for several days, just sitting in a huddle. White hen & white sultan so I put him in with the babies and he ran to them said something in chicken then headed to the feeder. Thank goodness it worked they have offcially adopted each other. Haven't posted in awhile so thought to share Lorax's story at this point in his life.

That'd be fun! or at least you'll have a choice?

The tip of my chicks wing has quils still on its feathers while the other wing does not. It makes it look funny. I will have to post pictures tomorrow.

Ok here are some updated pics of the sultans! I think I might have 3 girls :D. They are now 10 weeks

Pink

Orange (the originally suspected male)

Yellow

This is Charlie, born October 16th and taken December 26th, so 10 weeks and one day? It's zoomed in on a group picture, so a bit fuzzy sorry!

another of him

and here are girls

some can have quite a bit of pink, and others virtually none at this point. I don't think Charlie was particularly dark compared with others either. Some of the girls kept me guessing a while too!

He doesn't really have horns, his comb is kind of flat topped, with just the hint of elongated corners. Note, those were the best face pictures I could find in the batch, it doesn't show the other girls with red. Most of them were facing away from me when I took pictures. The little protuberances you see on yours aren't the "horns" at least I doubt it, as many of mine had such things that just turned into weird add ons, LOL.

Here is charlie's comb a month and a half later (February 9th)

I'm trying to remember, but it was about the 10 week mark, when some of the girls started getting their lines on their mouths, etc... like yours. Some were definitely earlier by a couple of weeks than others, so you could just have 3 that are the early type. I still think it's too light to be a boy.... I mean. look at that picture of charlie close up, the top one in my other post, he's really got way more red, and he wasn't one of the darker boys either, in fact I liked him best but wasn't sure for a long time that he was a boy! They are the same age in that picture, and his markings are way more distinct. Don't let the fuzzyness fool ya :)
