OOOOH yes, that's a boy!

Chickens can be so obnoxious and neurotic when they're young. Mine are always super calm as chicks, psycho as teenagers, and calm again around laying time. The drool might have been water that got pushed out of his crop when you picked him up. That's happened to me a couple of times.

He calmed down after a while, then I took him outside to visit his old buds, the Crevecoeurs whom he traveled and lived with for the first few weeks of his life. He seemed to recognize them (though probably not, LOL) The bigger leghorns were excited and were jumping at the fence as if they wanted to hop over it (like a good 10" off the ground hop, LOL So cute!) No flapping, just hopping! I could swear the crevies also recognized him, they all came over to visit. But it was really chilly, there is a storm coming, and we have a bit of wind, with cold air. Charlie isn't hardened off like the others, so after a bit (and I was keeping him warm) we went back inside. He was much calmer by the time I put him back with his ladies, LOL.

Well, none of the others have color, so I'm pretty sure the rest are girls. 4/12 boys is a great ratio, I was lucky!

Oooo!! Could I see pictures of Crevecoeurs? I really want to get some next year....

Yup, I've been obsessed for a while now.

Oh, I need to take some pictures of them now, they've gotten over their ugly phase, mostly. They're actually very sweet and smart, unlike my silly Sultans. Bless their silly little puffs, they are truely ... dumb blonds, LOL. I mean, the Sultans are a little skittish, but I'm sure they'll get over that, but the Crevies are as smart as my Leghorns, curious and actually not as skittish as my leghorns (but my leghorns are definitely sweet as can be) It'll be raining hard tomorrow, so I don't think I'll get any good pictures... but I'm over due for some so I'll do it soon :) I'm glad you're thinking about getting some, they're not popular enough and the thread is really dead and lonely

Yaay, I may have a home for my Sultan boys! A nice sounding Thai man with lots of birds he collects, sounds like a bird fancier, and I think he likes their fanciness. He has some polish as well. I hope my boys will be happy there (barring that he changes his mind??)

Whew! Hardest part about being a city slicker backyard chicken rancher (hee hee, rancher, yah) is finding a way to deal with those roosters! I'm gonna miss those little cuties, but they gotta go!

Oh, and I still owe you Crevecoeur pictures, SilkiesForEver!

It's so hard, and these sultans are so sweet, and only good for being a pet, not much else, LOL. Anyway, The one boy I wanted to keep is indeed a boy, caught him crowing yesterday... wait, did I already say that? I can't remember. Sorry if I repeat myself, LOL.

My boys are gone!

I'm gonna miss their crowing! They were like crowing in harmony and it was so darn cute! The man who took them was so nice, and so was his daughter?? I think it was his daughter? Well, now I'm hoping the one that I kept will not be too loud. He seldom crowed when the others were here, so maybe he will remain mostly quiet? I don't know though...

I just sold two of my boys. 1 Cuckoo Maran, and 1 Mottled Cochin. How old are your Sultans? None of my boys have crowed yet.

My boys started crowing...lets see... at about 5 1/2 weeks. Today they're 8 1/2 weeks old. I can't complain, I got 4/12 cockerels, and the rest are pullets! I'm very happy with that! I hope they end up laying pretty well (for Sultans). I do want eggs to eat, LOL.
