Well, I've noted it as a genetic issue in my notes as several people have said their Sultans are missing nails. If I work on breeding these birds, I'll be keeping an eye on this issue :) I won't be seriously breeding anything though unless we move to the country... Until then, I'll only go very slowly :)

Beautiful as always, kiaa!

Oh gosh, those pictures are just TOO CUTE!!!! They make me giggle!

at around 4 - 5 weeks of age, I started to see some color in the combs of the boys. There was a pinkish hue to some of the girls as well... but more pronounced in the boys. The fact that I had 12 birds to compare made it more obvious, I think. With only two, it'll be hard to tell till later (and even so, I still felt like I was guessing)

They were 1 day short of 4 weeks old in these pictures :) I hope it helps! Also, you need to go outside to see them in natural light.

If this helps, my Crevecoeur girl's wattles looked like this at the same age as those above:

Belina, my girl, above and below

And the boys:

This is Bouillon, the boy I kept. I adore him, he's so sweet! My Charlie, who I do love, is skittish compared to this boy! Bouillon is a lap chicken, LOL

Most of the boys had good color in their wattles but one kept me guessing well into the 12th week, then all of a sudden it's crest started to look boy like, within days, they all grew boyish crests! And the girl's finally started looking more rounded.
