the sultan thread

Love all the pis of everyone's Sultans!

I have pictures, just not uploaded. Yesterday I spent all day on the coop, painting and improving my hatch latch. :)

Today I went to let the girls out and Raja was missing. Checked inside the coop and she was just laying there, tail down, not feeling well.

She even allowed me to move her, which isn't like her at all. Usually she gets downright frantic if I go anywhere near her. She was fine last night and put herself inside the coop with everyone else. I'm not sure if she got mashed in the chicken pile (mine still don't roost) or if she got caught up in something. I have no idea.

Today she is just sitting outside, head down, tail down, and kind of put off. She lets me touch her (not like her at ALL) but will get up and move around, just with a limp. This is exceptionally frustrating because I just patched up my sick Polish. I brought him in, gave him a bath, fed him electrolytes and Nutri-Drench and he bounced back and has been doing fine since. I had treated the coop with mite preventative that day and figured something happened with him, but not the others.

Sigh.

The weird limping thing also happened with a silkie and another polish and I had just assumed it was my dogs messing with them behind the fence so I strengthened that area. Not sure what to think now.

They were both fine the next day. They were eating, drinking, and otherwise fine, just a bit tender in one leg. One was a silkie who is very chill and laid back and the other was my silly nearly rumpless polish. He is a flyer, though, and likes to try and push his way out the door, so he could have done it any sort of ways. No lumps, bumps, or eye changes. They have been fine ever since I put up the extra barrier.

I don't know if Raja will make it though. :( It presented as limping, but I think it is actually just weakness that was causing her to sort of hobble about. I went out again to sit with them and bring them some scratch to peck at. Raja was down again and was sort of interested in the scratch. She still hasn't figured scratch out. She rarely figures out treats, so nothing unusual there. She seemed bright and with it, like earlier.

She tried to run from me when I went to pick her up as I had brought out a syringe to give her some electrolytes and a bit of vitamins mixed in. When I caught her she realized she was safe and then sort of collapsed in my arms like she was exhausted. She's been down ever since. I got about 1/3 of the syringe down, carefully dropping a bit at a time so she didn't aspirate.

I didn't feel comfortable leaving her there so I brought her in, where she continued with being passed out and very tired/sick. She'll crack an eye open when I move around. I gave her a bath, which she barely protested, and dried her off before blow drying. She pooped, but it was a yucky bile looking one.

I've got her in a box, in my lap, or on my chest as I lay down to watch TV and she just nestles into me. I have been giving her more liquids through a syringe like before, I redosed her with some Nutri-Drench and I'm trying to keep her hydrated. I'm really worried about her, though. This is so unlike her, and exactly how my sick Polish started except he had an eye closed instead of limping. After a bath and the same TLC he bounced back a bit weak but fine. He's now strutting the yard like normal. They both like to sit in the same areas together. I have no idea what is going on. Did they eat something bad? Were they exposed to something?

Hi I am a new mama to a Sultan. She is pure white gorgeous gal we call Marilyn because of her beautiful feathers. I will post pictures of her later. I am so glad I found this thread!!

There are so many things out there that they can catch. One of my girls got sick, and we got her the only med in our store, Sulmet. We treated everyone for two days and she bounced back, though she wasn't as bad as your girl sounds :( It's an antibacterial, and I'm not sure if that is different from an antibiotic?? It covers coryza, coccidiosis cholera and pullorum (salmonella, which I doubt you have) Most likely it's coccidiosis??

Welcome aboArd. Cherish! Join our. Funny farm! And yup photos are a must!

Mal, sounds. Like something all right. Calm, quiet n stress free hopefully will help her. Is she eating at all? Some wet mash might help a little if she's not. Could she have gotten into something touchy around the yard? Cross my fingers for u.
