AWESOME, more people to talk too about sultans!!! Mine will be coming October 10th, so...er.... Holy Cow! Two Weeks! I guess that's HCTW I need to finish the leghorn coop, not just so I can get them out of the quickly shrinking brooder, but so that I can make room for newbiies!!

Lets see, here is my insanity:

1. Hubby said we could have chickens (finally)
2. Hubby and I start researching, found BYC, joined
3. Found out about Trader Joe's fertile eggs and that people hatch leghorns out of 'em
4. Built incubator, incubated 1st batch of leghorn chicks, which are quickly growing!!!
5. Building coops and runs (and cleaning yard for 'em
6. Ordered Serama eggs, got shook up in mail, awaiting replacement arrival tomorrow

7. also ordered Serama eggs from another person, arrival... week of the 8th
8. Set another batch of Trader Joe eggs for world egg day hatch-along

and then 9. Ordered Bantam Sultan chicks at Ideal

All within 2 months, I think.... I know I've lost all control

Please post pictures when your Serama eggs hatch! I really want Seramas but I already need to downsize my flock.

I know, it's so bad! But I keep thinking not all the eggs (especially serama) will hatch, of course, so... but then watch everything hatch and thrive and I'll be bustin my butt to find room, LOL. I already plan on keeping them all in separate coops and still haven't finish building the first one!!!

Least my brother in law is giving me fee plywood from his construction job site. A little concrete here n there, but usable!

I can't wait for pictures of your babies!!!

BTW, I like your signature, for some reason I never saw that written before, and I like :)

LOL, I've been watching videos on youtube and just amazed at how quiet these birds are! I mean quiet as in almost like a stuffed animal! I suppose that might be an individual thing, but wow, the one with a little girl who can just take and hug a sultan chick like a toy was amazing! Just too darn cute!

I have been wondering... I mean... a lot of people have posted on this thread, a lot of people seem to have Sultans, or did have them... I'm wondering if in the end, people don't like their Sultans for some reason and have stopped raising them? Or do you all still like your Sultan Chickens over time and you're just quiet?

I'm hoping mine will do well here in our area. The coldest it's ever gotten here that I know of is 28 degrees, but usually it stays above freezing. I think I really am gonna make a coop like the one I posted, with lots of wire, no run, just an open secure coop of 2 tiers, 24 sq feet and no more than 3 chickens in each. I think that should be ok for a not-so active trio? Do you think the birds would really be happy that way? I'd take them out to play with but they wouldn't have a run... Have I asked this already? LOL my memory sucks!

It's probably because they don't want to blind everyone with their amazing Sultans and don't want those without them to be jealous.
