The Supreme Court's Gun Ruling This Week - Not A Debate

Another issue here is that we accept crime and the acts of criminals as part and parcel of our society. We blame everything and everyone, from guns to school teachers for their acts - while failing to hold the criminal himself truly accountable.
Did you hear what San Francisco wants to do with illegal immigrant drug dealers? They want to deport them to save them from prosecution, because if that happens they can't become citizens. Uh, hello?

It's that sort of mentality that we are at odds with.

When punitive measures become both swift and implacable, you will see a reduction in crime. There will still be those who want to do wrong - it is within us all to do so.
But until we make that leap from the concept of criminal reform to surgical removal, the bad guys will do whatever they think they can get away with. Guns or no guns.

This may seem silly to some, but I carry a handgun because I am often alone in the woods. I am a wildlife biologist, so its just usually me and the great outdoors. The thing is, its not the wildlife I carry it for, its the people.

It might be different if headlines in newspapers ran: Two women jumped out of van and kidnapped man on street. or 3 women arrested for gang rape of man, or Man missing while hiking presumed abducted by unknown woman, or Man found in basement forced to have 'bleep' with woman captor.

But this doesn't seem to be the case. The headlines are usually the other way around. So, when I do my 2 mile jog on a back dirt road, take a guess what I have in my gymshorts, along with a large knife. I am from the "always have a plan B" mantra.

I support freedom, the constitution allows for the ownership of guns, the Supreme Court has ruled on the amendment and law abiding citizens should be allowed to conceal carry, anytime anywhere. Criminals are looking for the easy mark, the weakest and least prepared targets. We don’t lock our doors, and leave the keys in the cars and trucks; crime rate in our whole area is near zero. The idiots are targeting our kids at schools and colleges, because it is a “gun free” zone. It is a shame that it has come to this but it has, we need to protect what we hold dear, without restrictions and concerns.
Peace,
Dave

We live in a mountain community with a population of about 2000 people. We have a sherriff station in town(we live about 15-20 min. from town) it is only manned during the week from 8-5. We are on our own the rest of the time. They will dispatch a car when needed but it has to come form 40 miles away, although there is a highway going past our community so the highway patrol also has juridiction here. If there is an emergency they can respond also.

For this reason I don't think that DH will have much problem getting his CCW, or me either as I am at home alone or with our DGD all the time.

I think that an edict like this would be great for all rural areas. Our mountains have many very small communities that have no law enforcement available quickly.

DH'S boss lives in one with less than 100 people that live there full time. They take care of their own business. A lot of the cabins can be rented and they also have a bar and grill there so they get a lot of people that are driving in the mountains for the day. The saying is :"what goes on in Sheideck stays in Sheideck" It doesn't happen too much, as most of the drive through people are bikers, it's the renters they have to watch.

I wonder how we could get rural areas to adopt an edict like that? It probably wouldn't go over well in our valley as we have many people that would rather guns weren't around.

Just what we need, MORE GOV. REGULATIONS and LAWS.

I just don't want anyone so incompetent that they cannot safely operate something as simple as a firearm in control of a more complicated 2 ton+ projectile complete with 10 or more gallons of explosive gas on the same crowded roads that me and my children use.

You do realize that not everyone WANTS to operate a gun? Being able to drive a car and safely handle a gun are not related. In the marines, the best shot in my Dad's division was an illiterate, moron but he could shoot. Being able to handle a gun has NOTHING to do w/intelligence.

It's a right to have a gun and it's also a right to NOT have a gun.

I agree that it is a "right to choose issue" on wether one owns a gun or not. The unfortunate part is, that on this continent, we are coming perilously close to ALLOWING these choices to be taken away from us. It is the minority that stands up when they see a problem or reason to voice opinions while the majority tends to remain silent. Elections anywhere you go tend to be a prime example of this.

The take care of me and mine attitude of a huge portion of the public, is further facilitating the process of eroding our freedoms.

Way to go Miss Prissy! My kind of Gal! I have not read every post on this thread so if I'm repetitive, sorry. I too own hand guns ( yes plural) Have been trained to use them and am a competitive shooter. Being competitive natured, I want to be equally matched with any thug that might approach me. If he is coming at me with something that will shoot 6 rounds in 2.7 seconds I don't want to have a single action colt to answer with.

If people are trained to use and manage firearms safely and with sound common sense They usually won't get into "trouble" . The NRA has a section every month in their magazine about all the folks and younger teens who have saved them selves and their family from intruders.

I have never considdered myself as a fighter but where has our back bone gone? I we don't stand up for ourselves, who will?

GET OUT THERE AND VOTE PEOPLE!!!!!!!! Less than 24% of eligible, registered voters are actually using that right!
