The Supreme Court's Gun Ruling This Week - Not A Debate

I live in a tiny little town in rural Texas, we have law officers but there are not many of them and they are spread out over a large area.

We are required by our town charter to own and know how to use firearms of several different kinds and be ready to defend our town and ourselves if need be.

There are two Deputies who come to the town shooting range twice a month to instruct citizens on the proper use of our chosen weapons and every adult over the age of 18 is required to show up for instruction twice a year.

To be honest we have no crime here, the key to our front door has been lost for as long as we have lived in this house; but then it’s never locked so we really don’t need one.

But then anyone who has been around this town for any time at all knows that every home has a gun and everyone who lives in that home knows how to use it. So if you broke into someone’s home in this town there is a very good chance you will be shot. Personally I think if every town did this the crime rate would be a lot lower.

That's a really good idea, Betty!

I don't know how big of town you live in, and I'm sure that it wouldn't work everywhere. My town has about 3000 people and is considered "rural".

Works very well in Kennesaw Georgia. If you are head of household you are required to own a handgun and the crime rate is super low even though its spitting distance from Atlanta. Kennesaw is basically a low crime island in a sea of dangerous towns and cities.

The town claims to have 1034 people but I think they were counting the cows too.

If the respective towns really wanted it to work they would figure out a way. They don’t have any problem figuring out how to collect your money when it comes time to renew your car registration every year.

now you let everyone in baltimore city have a gun and you'll see me running far far away, not to offend anyone if i did but i have a right to my own opinion and i am truely terrified of baltimore city because of how violent it is and some people just dont not deserve guns because most likely they'll go and shoot someone to be able to get into a gang or for some other crazy reason, so im sorry to say this but mrs. BettyR i dont think that idea would work in every place JMOO

I dont have time to read all this right now. But I want to comment on the most important post I saw in the first 3 pages of this post. And that post was this:

"IMAO, the 5/4 ruling proves, to me at least, the importance of not getting another liberal president elected to send more liberal judges to the Supreme Court."

You often heard it said that the "President" doesn't really matter, as it is congress that enacts most all laws. While to a point that is true, the president very much DOES matter, and the above statement is why.

The Pres appoints HIS choices of Supreme Court Justices, and once there, they serve for LIFE. One more Liberal Justice, and the 2nd Amendment would of been thrown away last week by the high court. That terrifies me.

Please, I urge all of you to use common sense when voting. There was a post the other day about some congressman wanting to issue rebate checks to compensate for high gas prices. Before everyone runs out and votes for him to get a $250 rebate check (or whatever) please think further ahead than that. Dont vote for someone promising one thing that you like, without taking the time to understand what that person really stands for. Chances are the one thing you voted for him for will never come to pass anyways, but what you stand to lose could be substantial.

Here in the communist state of IL, you are not allowed to carry a concealed weapon, with or without a permit. You are however allowed to carry any gun in a case, which I do in my truck at all times. Sure it's not near as helpful in a case, but better than nothing I figure.

What town do you live in? I want to move there!! In this day and age, what you just posted shocked the heck out of me. It's wonderful!! However, I do have to agree it wouldnt work so well in cities, but should be a must for every rural town.

If you require Baltimores law abiding citizens to have a handgun crime rates will go down. Requiring law abiding citizens to have guns is not going to arm the gangs because guess what. The gangs even in cities with bans are already well armed.

We have people talking like most citizens can not handle a firearm. A firearm is very simple to handle and just takes common sense not to do harm with it although training helps too. I sure do not want anyone who is not competent enough to operate a firearm operating a motor vehicle. Motor vehicles are much more complex, much more dangerous and kill many more people than firearms. Why do we want someone not competent enough to operate a simple handgun playing russian roulette down the highway mixed with some competent people but many incompetent people? I say we make it much tougher to get a drivers license. I say we also make citizens go through a firearms safety course and demonstrate their ability to operate a firearm before getting a drivers license. I believe all citizens should be required to have all safety equipment in their vehicle at all times when in operation including that loaded anti carjacker device. If they mess up with the firearm take the car away as well because it is much more complex and deadly.
