Why in Boston, it is law...if your wife commits adultery, embarrasses, harms your reputation within the community, or humiliates you, you may take her to the town square and publically beat her.
That isn't the law everywhere? Darn

I disagree. The States cannot decide on issues that require all states in unison. You would have chaos. The same issue came up when prohibition was ended...it still goes on today. You cannot get it here so you drive across the county or state line and buy it there, transport it back. That solves nothing. It is not socialism it is realism and fact. If you do not have uniform aka federal laws governing certain things, then you have 50 states, each with a different take on the issue and none of them resolving the issue.
That is the very reason federal law trumps state law, it is a good system and effective. While I do not agree with the majjority of rulings made by the Supreme Court, they are there for a reason.
There's a reason they call this the United States of America. Separate but equal. The Supreme Court is only supposed to step in when absolutely necessary to resolve disputes, NOT make law. That is up to the legislative branch. If you wanted, say, abortion to be illegal or legal, the way to do it is through the legislature and not rely on the Supreme Court to do your bidding. We have three branches of federal government that all have independent functions. It is NOT the Court's function to write law. It is their function to INTERPRET law. I hate when abortion activists on both sides try to use the judicial branch to solve their problems. If there was enough support either way, it would already be law. But because there isn't consensus, decisions should be left to each state.
I guess what I'm saying is that each state should maintain a certain level of control over law and the federal government should only step in when a state law is deemed unconstitutional. That's the way the system was intended to work by the founding fathers.
Unfortunately, politicians are self serving and write nonsense bills every day and vote trade to support their buddies' bills (IN BOTH PARTIES!). That, is the real shame.
