The Supreme Court's Gun Ruling This Week - Not A Debate

The People is a phrase you'll read over and over again in the Constitution and The Bill of Rights. Why does The People mean one thing in the Second Amendment, as opposed to everywhere else in both documents. The People means the individuals who make up the United States of America. From the First Amendment:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

The People means the individual citizens.

The Second Amendment:

A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

The People are the same people as in the first. Individual citizens. Thing is, the founding fathers knew that armed citizens were less likely to be 'controlled' by a central government. This country was founded on individual rights. In no way, shape or form were the founding fathers protecting a government defined group, they were defending our rights, as citizens.

Consider the Third Amendment:

No Soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the Owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.

They're even making sure that the government can't come into your home and take it over. It's your castle.

The Second Amendment is clear. We have the right to keep and bear arms, something I do quite willingly. I have a concealed carry license (something I shouldn't have to have) in three states.

What scares me was the split decision - there were four judges on the Supreme Court who were willing to take my rights away. This country is becoming a very scary place - how much longer will freedom reign.....

My sister and I were the victims of a home invasion when we were young. We lived in Missouri at the time. Mother and father were out for the evening, we were 12 and 14. Our elderly neighbor gentleman heard our screams, and came out for us toting his .12 gauge. The man who came into our house uninvited was more than happy to wait quietly on the floor, face down with a loaded shotgun at the base of his neck while I phoned for the authorities and my sister got herself together. A few moments longer, and he would have sexually assaulted my sister. The invader came armed with a butcher knife from OUR kitchen drawer.

That .12 gauge toting neighbor most likely saved our lives.

There are guns in our home. Some of them, like the 30.06 and the .12 gauge, are the workhorses of our homestead's predator management. The handguns, which are a new addition, are simply for home protection.

The world is a crazy place, and it is ONLY GETTING WORSE. If things go bad in this country, and you come onto my homestead looking for trouble, guaranteed, you'll find it.

The ruling is indeed troubling. It's been said that if guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns. I'm proud to say, we'll be outlaws. No one will take away my right to protect my family.

JMHO-

I would like to tell you a true story. You all have heard of Rosie ODonald. I’m not sure if I have her last name spell correctly but she had a talk show. Said she was gay and against guns. Made a big stink about it on her show. Hope you all know who I mean.

My son in law, Air Force, K-9 unit, Bomb Squad. Was sent to New York. Him and his dog. The dog was aloud to stay in the Hotel because they were working in the Hotel, the Vice President was going to be there.

Well good old Rosie came in her car, my SIL and dog had to check her car. She ask if she could pet the dog and was told NO. this made her mad and out of the car came her body guard. He was checked and had a weapon. My SIL being the big mouth that he is ask why does he carry a gun. And Rosie O. said to protect ME. So it’s ok for her body guard to carry a gum to protect HER.

I agree with mangles

We have many guns in our home, some for hunting and some not.

They will take my last gun out of my cold dead hand.

LMAO - okay this is OT, but Gin's post, and us both being from PA, reminds me of what Obama said about PA when he was campaigning.

"Pennsylvanians cling to their guns and religion."

Must be some truth there somewhere.

just look at the cities and states that have srtict gunlaws. There are higher rates of murder. so more restrict gunlaws does not and will not make you safer.

That's, appropriately for this forum, a which came first the chicken or the egg question, The violence in response to the stricter gun laws or the gun laws in response to the violence. Keystonepaul .

Quote:
This is quite smple, really. It means every citizen shall be a part of the nations defense, citizen-soldiers, at home and in military service... the whole "enemies, both foreign and domestic" bit. EVERY citizen; that means YOU who are reading this.
Not watchdog government, not hired strongarms with badges - YOU.

You are essentially required by virtue of your citizens duty** to both own firearms and to be prepared to use them. The men who framed those words were both prepared and followed through by risking their lives to create those words. They lived under the jackboot of an occupation force, if you'll recall. To even meet in a tavern under the guise of insurrection could mean death. Truly, "All Gave Some, Some Gave All."

Nothing less is expected of you.

This means even against scofflaws who would infringe on your right to "life, liberty and the pursuit' of happiness. There are all manner of enemies, abroad and at home.

We can debate the words until we're blue in the face, but the intent was immutable:

This nation rises or falls by what each of us DOES, not what we argue about.

** Sadly, DUTY is a concept that seems to be fast slipping from our consciousness. Most feel there is only duty to oneself, these days. Part of the reason we have an excess of crime, I'm certain.

Read through 10 pages of this and have to say you simply NAILED this topic right there! Bravo and very well said.

I for one am upset that the subject even made it to the court. It should be unquestionable. However it puts us in peril because what the court gives (or thinks they give) they can also take away.

I like MP, I have a CCW and carry a Glock 26 or a 1911. You know, a handgun is only for fighting your way to your rifle.

I spend a great deal of my time working with the RWVA's Appleseed project. We work very hard with no pay to promote rifle marksmanship and teach Revolutionary War History as a way to wake people up to what's happening around them and the great sacrifices made to get you that 2A. You should all check them out and get to an Appleseed near you. www.appleseedinfo.org
