The Supreme Court's Gun Ruling This Week - Not A Debate

Quote:
Several reasons. Theft. Getting hassled by citizens and police. The across the rail toolbox became widely available. Alot of the older trucks had gastanks behind seat so no room for hidden gunracks on those. Modern trucks have plenty of room behind seat.

just look at the cities and states that have srtict gunlaws. There are higher rates of murder. so more restrict gunlaws does not and will not make you safer.

The court even debating the issue seems insane to me. I don't believe the court can override the Bill of Rights, maybe they think they can though.

I was not a volunteer. I was an actual employee and a student. We were all working on allowing us to carry guns as officers. There were caves and no radio communication down there. We did have a gang down there sometimes and you just prayed you never came across them and their guns down there when you were doing your nightly patrols and lock-downs. I was also a mature college student who was a criminal justice major. There were a few other students who were also mature enough for guns and we went to the range on weekends but we weren't allowed to carry the guns on campus even if we had a permit to conceal and carry. I could have stayed there after graduation and became a full-time employee but I decided to move on. Most of our security guards were former police officers who wanted to also teach criminal justice classes. I think they would have been safe enough employees for the campus to allow them to have their guns. They were trained but unarmed and were not volunteers!

I too carry. The pistol that is in my avatar is what I carry on a daily basis (in places that it is allowed). It is a Springfield XD 45 compact. It holds either 10+1 or 13+1 cartridges. It is loaded with Speer Gold Dot .45 jacketed hollow point cartridges (thanks silkiechicken!).

The right to own guns is a guaranteed right of the 2nd amendment. Funny enough, I don't really see how the 2nd is linked to carrying guns in the common setting. I am, however, very happy that many of us do have this ability. I have no problem walking around the store knowing that other people, just like myself, may have a gun concealed upon their person. There is a process to get a carry license and background checks are in place, so I feel that it is a somewhat safe procedure.

And as far as folks saying that carrying guns just means you'll pull them out and blast someone when your rampaging hormones get the best of you... Utah has had concealed carry at its universities for a while now. Nobody has been shot by a CCW (concealed carry weapon). Can you believe it! Folks aren't pulling their gun at the slightest squabble for their 3.4 instead of 3.8!

When I got my permit and put my gun on for the first time to head out, I thought it was crazy that the .gov allows us to do this. It is a huge responsibility, and typically people make changes when they start.

When I carry, darn near everything is just water off a duck's back.

And yes, 5-4 was a little scary. Shows how important voting for a president can be (they choose the Supreme Court Justices).

Exactly. We were taught that guns were NOT toys and we were also taught respect both for human life and for a guns ability to destroy that life. Kids today have had guns glamorized into *toys* by tv and our society and at the same time *respect* for life and for other ppl has been seriously erroded.

The problem is NOT with guns..the problem is with the society that we live in.

And no one is safe. Not far from me 2 little girls were recently murdered on a country road near a quiet little country town. The kind of place where ppl want to say..that *cant* happen here! But it can, and it does. My guess would be that they walked up on a drug deal since they were shot excution style with 2 different guns. Drug trafficers have no respect for human life or gun laws...imagine if they were the only ones with guns sigh.

at times like this I am glad I am in a position not to have to need to debate the issue (I live in the Netherlands)

I only have a 12 guage shotgun here in the house ...we can't get CCW's in this state, so I sold my handguns. It's more of a risk of them being stolen than them being here to protect me ..ironically.

Anyhoo.. I have had a gun in my possession since I was big enough to know the safety and the purpose of one (I'm not telling my age

Last weekend, I woke up to find a burglar cleaning out my car ..he was taking stuff from inside the car and he had my battery sitting out and my trunk open (tools and everything else in there). He was arrested.... and I never had to work up a sweat ...he stood right still and waited....

It's our RIGHT, folks! Exercise yours!!
