I too carry. The pistol that is in my avatar is what I carry on a daily basis (in places that it is allowed). It is a Springfield XD 45 compact. It holds either 10+1 or 13+1 cartridges. It is loaded with Speer Gold Dot .45 jacketed hollow point cartridges (thanks silkiechicken!).
The right to own guns is a guaranteed right of the 2nd amendment. Funny enough, I don't really see how the 2nd is linked to carrying guns in the common setting. I am, however, very happy that many of us do have this ability. I have no problem walking around the store knowing that other people, just like myself, may have a gun concealed upon their person. There is a process to get a carry license and background checks are in place, so I feel that it is a somewhat safe procedure.
And as far as folks saying that carrying guns just means you'll pull them out and blast someone when your rampaging hormones get the best of you... Utah has had concealed carry at its universities for a while now. Nobody has been shot by a CCW (concealed carry weapon). Can you believe it! Folks aren't pulling their gun at the slightest squabble for their 3.4 instead of 3.8!
When I got my permit and put my gun on for the first time to head out, I thought it was crazy that the .gov allows us to do this. It is a huge responsibility, and typically people make changes when they start.
When I carry, darn near everything is just water off a duck's back.
And yes, 5-4 was a little scary. Shows how important voting for a president can be (they choose the Supreme Court Justices).
