The Supreme Court's Gun Ruling This Week - Not A Debate

What if "Elderoo" shot the wrong person?

In Elderoo's case the chance of that would be slim due to his background.

However anything is possible and life is full of "What if's".

Police officers will shoot an innocent bystander on occasion. Does this mean
we should disarm them?

I see, I think, what you are trying to say. My position is we do have the right to
bear arms, as protected by the 2nd ammendment BUT there must be some criteria
for concealed weapons.

I don't need a permit to own a gun in my home.

I think we can "what if" all day long. In the end, and it is my personal choice, as well as thousands of others, we'd rather have a gun to defend ourselves then our foot. If I'm confronted with possible lethal force, I'll respond with lethal force. It's a choice you take, and if you don't want to, that's completely up to you. You are not a better or worse person for it. Unprepared, maybe, but that's about it.

I guess what's important is that those who find guns icky don't restrict those who don't from having theirs

And from the way this thread is going, I think we can all agree on that matter

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go grab my AR and clear the kitchen before I start making some burgers. If I don't post back in at least 24 hours, call the cops.

If someone breaks into the house or robs a store at gun point I'd rather be safe than sorry I have a permit to carry and do! Thankfully I never had to use it! But believe me when it comes to my family and friends I will not give it a second thought to use it! You can take guns from people but you can't take guns that criminals got cause if there criminals chances are there guns aren't registered and don't have a serial number on it!

Most people don't, and they shouldn't.

Try to spot a concealed handgun. It's not easy, but you can often do it if you're looking, and there are a lot more armed citizens, plainclothes cops, Air Marshals, etc. out there than you probably think. Anyway, once you spot one, lift up the guy's shirt or pants leg and grab it. Report back to us on how easy it was.

It certainly influences the odds.

If your instincts don't make it obvious, do not draw your weapon. If you do draw your weapon, and there are other potential "good guys" around, identify yourself by yelling "Concealed carry license!". They will do the same by yelling "Federal officer!", "Police!", or whatever is appropriate. After you've done what needs to be done, carefully scan the area, then reholster your weapon and take some deep breaths. You don't want to be standing among the carnage with your ears ringing and a smoking pistol in your hand when the uniform cops arrive.

If any of that was news, then you really need some formal defensive pistol training. Even a one-day or weekend course would be a good start.

If I was bent on mass murder, I'd simply shoot the metal detector operator first.

Unless there's a squad of Marines covering every door and every window, it's simply impossible to secure a building against even a kid who's never had any training but video games.

If you choose to rely on others for your security, fine. Some of us don't.

Here's another experiment for you: Call the cops, then order a pizza. See which one gets there first.

Humans will find a way to kill each other weather they have guns or not. Before 1650 that was before guns people where still killing each other and suprise surprise they had no guns.even today people will use anything they can.thats just my 2 cents

I would like to compliment everyone on this thread. Thank you for having civil conversation and not turning to heated anger to make your thoughts heard.

This is EXACTLY what I don't want my kids exposed to especially when they are the carnage from someone that spotted someone w/a weapon and starts it up.....

Metal detectors DO work, if someone is going to come in blazing as you imply, there are cops at the door that have guns to blaze back. They don't need a bunch of armed parents firing away as well into a crowd of kids. Who then is the good guy and who is the bad guys???? You shoot my kid, I don't care about your intentions, I'll react and you won't like my reaction, guaranteed.....

I feel like a broken record, but I'll try again using the example you have chosen:

The metal detector at Columbine didn't stop the murders. And the cop on duty there ran away when he heard the shooting. The cops who arrived later stood around outside for two hours before going in.

If I heard shooting inside my kid's school, I like to think I'd do something about it immediately. I'll worry about your reaction later. And the cops will do what they almost always do - show up after it's over and make a report.

Being a large part native american this comment pretty much ended my wish to participate in this thread last night.

One might note however that the indians defended themselfs pretty well despite not having guns. When ppl are pushed into a corner as the government tries to take their land and their right to raise their children as they see fit they will defend themselfs any way they can..guns or not.

However defending your family and keeping someone from stealing your land is a pretty hard thing to do when the enemy or government is armed and your ppl are not. It might be wise to take a look at the parrellel between what happened to the native americans back then and what many fear will happen to the white man in the future if their right to bear arms is taken away.
