The Supreme Court's Gun Ruling This Week - Not A Debate

one worth fighting.

if they have their gun drawn already only and idiot would draw theirs

With this we agree. What troubles me are the ones that have handguns and would draw as some have stated they would.

Want to stop crazy's, arm everyone w/tazers. then innocents are safe but that isn't cool........

How did this crazy angry person get his hand gun? Who sold it to him? Scenario's like this support those that want to outlaw hand guns and destroying all that are in existance in USA now. Have to admit, if we destroyed all hand guns by definition there wouldn't be any for your average run of the mill crazy angry person. I realize "true" bad guys, would make their own but they do already.

I'm not even sure why there *IS* a debate. Not here, but in general. I mean, a gun is just a gun. It has a variety of uses. So do knives, ice picks, vehicles, hammers, axes, saws, drills... you get the picture.

Summerwinds: Don't give up on your son as I'm sure you won't but I want to share a good story with you.

Our youngest daughter was completely addicted to meth. And they way she started on it was horrible. She was a school bus driver and the drivers were using it in the mornings before work to wake up.

Anyway it was a 5 year battle with her. We finally went to court to get custody of her again because she was of course an adult.

We finally after trying everything just had to turn her out and tell her to sink or swim. For 6 weeks we had no idea where she was. She totally hit rock bottom, lost everything and was living on the street. Finally one afternoon the phone rang and all she said was "Come get me, I'm ready for help"

That was 12 years ago. She is now married to a wonderful guy, has a great job that she loves and has a 5 year old son who is terrific!.

It's not a miracle, it took a lot of hard work. And the right Dr.s. She was diagnosed as drug-induced bi-polar and was put on lithium for 3 years.

But she is happy, and healthy now.

My prayers for your son. It can be done!

Jacie

Now that is the most scary thing I have read so far. It is not the Supreme courts
job to change the constitution. That would cause a revolution and I believe the
majority of police and military would support the people.

You are absolutely correct to be scared by this. Four judges on that court were willing to change the Constitution from the bench. The Constitution has been described by some in power recently as an evolving document. No it isn't. It's an extremely well thought out, wisely written document written with an enormous amount of understand as to how governments 'work' and written so as to protect the people from that government, by enabling them to be powerful in their own right. The founding fathers knew things could come to where they are now, and they laid the groundwork for the defense of freedom. Waaaaay to many nowadays think they have better ideas for controlling you and yours. People need to wake up and think, take care of themselves and their own, and quit looking for big daddy government to help bail them out. With all that 'help' comes control.

Isn't it true that only Congress can ammend, not change the constitution? I realize
the dessenting members weren't trying to change it but just voicing that opinion
says enough about them.

Supposedly it's true that only Congress can amend The Constitution, but many in power today think that should change

People are taught to be victims. Unfortunately that thinking is widespread throughout our society. As for your remark that many wouldn't be able to hit their target, let's go shooting someday. And yes, I've trained both defensively and in emergency situations.

You forgot matchbooks and swimming pools. Sharp observation, there., Marian.

This comment was made a while back, now forgotten - if indeed it was ever noticed:
"My God do we, as humans, overcomplicate things."

Aint it the truth?

i have a concealed carry permit for the state of oregon. which you have to pass a class an renew at the county sheriff's office. i respect local lay enforcement but realistically know that in an emergency they cannot respond fast enough. i don't carry often but feel safe knowing that i have the means to protect my family and my kids. you never know where you will run into a bad guy if you read or watch the news there are examples of trouble in schools, churches and restaurants. my worry is usually the metal thiefs that are on meth and steal things from farms in broad daylight. i love my animals but will eat them if i need to if things get to be really hard times. i know old farm style self-sufficiency is a choice of lifestyle but natural disasters like katrina can happen anywhere. i prefer to be prepared and sleep well at night.

I disagree. I work for the government and I just got out of a meeting in which the opening comment was "I hope this presentation isn't too Socialistic, but I've been told you all are a Socialistic bunch."

The right to own guns in America is the secret to our success as a nation. I hate to even imagine what would happen to this country should the "socialists" ever figure out a way to take them away form us.

To me, it doesn't matter how many murders or crimes are committed with guns of any type.

Those figures are irrelevant to the debate of whether or not out Founding Fathers meant for the government to control us, or for us to control the government, via personal arms ownership.

How presumptious and arrogant does one executive appointee need to be to come into a room of government employees where they know no one but the head of the departmentand assume everyone is a socialist liberal?

It made me feel sick to my stomach. These presentential elections mean more than who sits in the oval office, make no mistake. They will decide if America stays a free country or becomes enslaved by the neo-communists, i.e. "the environmentalists."

Just a comment that both the U.S. Post Office and the Library system are both excellent Socialist-run systems in our country that I don't think anyone would want to get rid of. I think we are all (myself) included easily triggered by certain words or labels that often don't mean what we assume they do. We citizens all have more in common than we realize and I wish we had better dialogues about the real issues, rather than labeling each other so fast. Again, myself included.

How many threads are on this board about how bad the PO is? Now, myself - I like my local PO, they are cool people. But I think many here would disagree with me.

So are you sure you want to cite the USPS as "an excellent example of socialism"? Honest question.

I think we are all (myself) included easily triggered by certain words or labels that often don't mean what we assume they do. We citizens all have more in common than we realize and I wish we had better dialogues about the real issues, rather than labeling each other so fast. Again, myself included.

I'm pretty clear on what the word "Socialist" means and I was not putting a lable on anyone here, I was using a personal example that happened to me just minutes prior to posting. An example of a "quiet campaign" (their words, not mine) that is taking place with officials in my state government who report directly to the governor.

Socialism and gun control are relevant and on topic, even if you wished they weren't. One more socialist judge on the supreme court and we'd be having a very different conversation.

I ask again because this was my main point- will we run the government or will the government run us?

Making sure the government is a true representation of the people is the purpose of the right to bear arms.
