The Sussex thread!

Daggone it! I've been searching for show quality Speckled Sussex for months now, and can't find anything. Sent an email to Sands Poultry in N.C. the other day, but have not heard from them. I'm wondering if they are out of business. They have some nice looking birds on their website.

Well, I decided to get a few from a hatchery just to have some. I put in for Ideal to notify me when they get some to hatch, and they emailed me yesterday saying they had 25 pullets. I called and ordered 8 pullets and 2 roosters. Kind of wish I'd took the whole 25, but that will leave me room to get some SQ SS if I can find some.

I can't believe how hard it is to find the SS from private breeders. I've googled till my eyeballs have about fell out for days and days. If I do find someone with good stock they can't ship to Virginia because of our strict poultry laws. Found a few eggs, but they are so far away I'm afraid to order them in this heat. I'm a little worried about the SS coming from Texas, but my wife got 17 Partridge Rocks from Ideal a few weeks ago when it was super hot and they made it fine. Little boogers are the most rambunctious chicks I ever saw.

Anyway, at least I will have some and can jump in here and talk about them.

Here if a dog messes with livestock (including chickens) it can be shot.

Next time, just take the shotgun out and take care of it. The dog destroyed your property and was trespassing.

it's the same here, but there is no leash law... there is right to farm, though. the law is most certainly on my side. She is really dumb, actually, for not just paying me. Court is going ot be in my favor and she will have fines and fees at that point.

Here's our beautiful Tiramisu!

She's such a sweetheart. She's got bright iridescence all over her, too. She's my fiance's first chicken from a nice lady in Barrington, NH. You can practically see the hearts coming out of her little head. She's about 4 months now.

aww shes adorable, my sissy is like that sweet as can be and when 1 of the roos is chasing her for nooky she runs and hides between my legs, cuz she knows I won't let the roos mount with me standing right there. hehe silly chickens but oh so very lovable.

Tiramisu is a cutie! so far the SS breed is my favorite........but then again I only have 3 breeds (RIR, SS and sliver laced Wyandottes)
