Hot2Pots has Speckled Sussex. Got some from her and had a great hatch rate.

Thanks, Aspen! I don't show yet, but I sure do enjoy my Sussex flocks and their wonderful personalities!:) I hope to be offering eggs all year.

I have coronation sussex, and the rooster is very rough on ther hens. Anyone elses sussex aggressive in this manor?

My Speckled Sussex have a very good nature and great with their ladies. My Coronation rooster is barely 1yr old and is huge. He is trying to prefect his technique. As of right now, he has ruffed up his hen a little but not to the point to make her bleed. Just a few feathers off her back. He is good nature as well, but just needs a little more practice.

My Sussex, Julie, lays double yokers frequently, out of 5 eggs 3 will be doubles. Is this common?
None of mine have ever layed double yolkers.

All my eggs were non-fertile last summer as my Sussex roosters, Winston, would not mount anybody as it was so stinking hot!! Now that is is colder he mounts several hens a day, but is NEVER aggressive twards them in the least. When they were running with my mixed flock if any rooster tryed to mount one of the Sussex 'gals or even one of the 50+ laying hens he went and beat the snot out of them!! Such a handsome boy he is! I just love him to death!!

Quite to the contrary my Sir Giles is a snuggle bun and treats his girls really well

Just Gorgeous!! Lost about 3-4 GORGEOUS Coronation roosters last summer to the heat. They just couldn't take it. *sigh* The only Coronation rooster I have noe looks like a hen, but he crows, mounts hens (when Winstons not around anywho!! ; ) ), and acts like a boy. But his tail looks like a hens, and his body, but is comb and wattles are quite a bit bigger than the hens. Ugly boy, but he must have produced some fairly good Coro babies, as I have three beauties that are growing up, then one Light Sussex + 2 young stunning pullets from the first of last summer. I cannot wait to get some babies out of them!! *drools*

Maybe it is something in the water because my Australorp lays them on occasion as well - I have discussed this with my neighbour - and in all the years he has had hens (and thats some time) he hasnt had a single double.......

Sorry to hear of your loss with your roosters - they are such beautiful creatures.
