The Sussex thread!

My sussex are better layers than my orpingtons so far. They are all young and the same age. I have one orp and a sussex that was in with a few more that could come and go as they wanted, and they started laying a month earlier than the others that were kept up and all the same age. Goes to show that birds that free range will mature faster.

Here are a few pictures of the two sussex I have. I have 1 light and 1 silver. I think the light is a roo and I can't decide on the silver. I keep going back and forth on whether it is a pullet or a roo. They are about 15 weeks old. What do you think?

Hi,
I am working on a project. I need some input, please. Color doesn't matter, neither does strain.
Only weight is a factor. Yes & No answers are fine. Those of you with hens (not pullets) over
7 pounds, how many eggs are you getting as a general rule:
1. per bird for a week?

2. Per bird for a month?

3. As a general rule, is the laying per bird continoius or does it come in sparadic intervals
during laying season?

Thanks so much!
