I do not think that is a Sussex. It might be a Production, or Rhode Island Red. I am not sure. Where did you get it? Red Sussex are pretty rare.

she is from mcmurray hatchery and she is one of 5 identical. i am comfortably certain that she is not rir because i grew up with them, but i don't know any of the other reds. she was a chipmunk chick, and the chick pictures of sussex looked reasonably similar which is why i started here.

ok taking a long shot here...

Any one have birds from university of Alberta Light Sussex? i think i may get a trio or pair... I know an older fellow with them, in trun i will have to sell my coloubain rocks

just picked up three speckled sussex pullets from a fellow chicken raiser in my area. i have to say that they are becoming my favorites of the 9 chickens we have right now. very mild mannered and easily handled. now if i can get the other 6 chickens to leave these three alone, we'll be doing great.

We got 6 speckled sussex by mistake (feed store thought they were welsummers), but it turns out I LOVE the speckled sussex! When they grow up, they are extraordinarily beautiful with the shiny plumage and spotting. I had NO IDEA based on photos on the internet, since the photos never look anywhere near as beautiful as the real thing. I even have BLRW and I still think the colors of the speckled sussex are prettier in person. I love to hold and pet them, just looking at the colors up close. You'll love them!!

Why do you have to get rid of your Columbian rocks???? I have been looking for some hatching eggs. Those seem to be a hard breed to find. You will love the Sussex though, they are awesome birds.

sorry no pics

I have been talking to a LS breeder in BC, and learned that the U of A line of LS is one of the most richest genetic line of LS sussex in NA. For one (will 2) simple reasons 1) the U of A allays kept 100+ LS
2) the LS were NOT selected they were able to breed as they chose, so i have 1 line and an other person has one line but they may not be related at all, and this all so allows them to carry many genes not just a few.
